2022 Senior State Games: East/North Preview

Today marks the first day of Fall in 2022 and that means we at PBR Florida are back to State Games season. Kicking things off this weekend, we have the 2022 Senior State Games. The event will take place September 24-25 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach. The event will feature top committed and uncommitted 2023s from around the state repping their region in Florida. The event will feature 2 separate showcases and 2 games on Saturday and 4 games Sunday. After all the games are over, the winning region will all win a pair of Blenders Sunglasses.

Today we start previewing the roster for the event. Today we will highlight the first session on Saturday featuring the East and North Regions.

East

The East region is packed with talent each year ranging from the areas of Orlando, Lakeland, and down the East Coast of Florida. Pitching for the East will be right-handers Robert Hurlock, Matthew Shumate, Oscar Hernandez, and Antonio Aguilar as well as southpaw Matthew Heyl (Stetson).

Behind the plate, the East will feature Derek Lopez (FGCU), Dom Bello (Anderson U), and Braden Rapp. A lot of power at first base for the East with Logan Hughes (Stetson) and Victor Martinez. The left side of the infield will feature Joshua Quezada (San Diego St.), Braylen Butler (Daytona St.), Kalayo Shaw, and Jose Castelo.

Rounding out the East roster in the outfield are Eric Correa (Rice), Jaden Bastian (Jacksonville), Luis Rivero (Saint Leo), Brody Pezza, Ethan Beal, Gavin Dicks, and Javier Caro. The East came runner up last year at the Senior State Games and bring a talented team once again.

North

The North region ranges all over the north half of Florida with players from Jacksonville, Daytona, Gainesville, and the panhandle. Pitching for the North are right-handers Drew Hurst, Justin Minaberry, Zachary Foland, Rilee Lowery, and 2024 Schuyler Sanford (Florida State). The North also features southpaws Mason Laurito (Florida State) and Carson Kelly.

Behind the plate for the North is Jeremy Castro, Carter Oglageo, and 2024 Hunter Carns (Florida State). Just like the East, the North first baseman come with a lot of power with Kirk Stensrud and Chase Gilligan. Up the middle, the North features Mark Alvelo, Colin Mastromauro, Ryan Morrow, Corey Hodierne, and Chaz Encarnacion.

In the outfield, the North features Michael Petite (UAB), Vic Patel (Barry), Joey Ervin, Karson Lindsey, Nicholas Upperman, and Daniel Gomez. Another talented North squad will be tough to beat with a deep pitching staff.
