2018 Future Games: Team Florida Game 1 & 2 Quick Hits

The 2018 Future Games is the largest uncommitted event in the country, with over 400 players and over 200 coaches and scouts. The event consists of a workout day and three games. Team Florida played the final game of the day against Team Carolinas on Thursday night and the first game Friday morning against Team Mid Atlantic. Today we take a look back at some of the early notes and quick hits from the first two of three games at the 2018 Future Games.

Game One- Team Florida v Team Carolina

Luke Baker, LHP, Bucholz HS, FL
Baker, a 6-foot-6 left hander has an ultra projectable frame. He showed ability to repeat a fairly clean and projectable arm action over three innings. His fastball worked mostly 83-86 mph early and showed a feel for a 70-73 mph slurvy curveball with potential and a 76-77 mph changeup. True three pitch mix, starter potential, as he struck out four in three innings of work.

Jacob Starling, SS, Trinity Prep HS, FL
Starling stood out initially in the field, where he made a rangy, diving play to get up and throw the runner out at first. He would have a jammed, RBI single in his final at-bat, but more impressingly after a walk in his first at-bat showed ability to get quality jumps, stealing a pair of bases.

Stan DeMartinis, UTL, American Heritage Delray, FL
DeMartinis has a stocky strong frame. Ability to play all over the diamond, he showed above average bat speed and offensive upside. Had an RBI single in his final at-bat.

Corbin Grantham, OF, Bucholz HS, FL
Grantham is extremely physical and quick twitch. While there is still some rawness to the swing, he has present bat speed and strength and drove a double during the game.

Matthew Menendez, C, Elite Squad Academy, FL
Menendez has a strong frame and some present power. Drove a fastball that bounced over the center field fence for a ground rule double.

Henry Politz, C/1B, Jesuit HS, FL
Politz if a physical left handed hitter with a strong lower half. Had a single during the first game in his final at-bat.

Zach DeVito, RHP/INF, Newsome HS, FL
Devito is a athletic two-way player. The arm is fairly quick and is overall athletic. He struck out a pair with a fastball ranging from 81-86 mph. The slider showed potential and depth at times at 69-71 mph.

Game Two- Team Florida v Team Mid Atlantic

Chase Centala, RHP, Sickles HS, FL
Centala has a loose, easy 3/4 arm action. He attacked the zone early and often, working 84-88 mph with life and much more to come. He showed a hard slider that had late depth at times and worked 77-79 mph. Showed a feel for a changeup with potential at 77-78 mph. Struck out four in his three innings of work.

Dom Scavone, RHP/INF, TNXL Academy, FL
Worked 81-83 mph with a short clean arm action and athletic and repeatable delivery. Struck out two in two innings of work. Has an advanced approach offensively, with a compact level swing and had a hard single in his final at-bat.

Sebastian Bentz, LHP/1B, Elite Squad Academy, FL
Bent has an athletic and projectable frame. He has an unorthodox stretch delivery and high leg kick which causes some deception. Worked mostly 77-79, touching 82 mph. Curveball showed some depth and threw the pitch for strikes at 61-64 mph. Struck out three in his two innings of work.

Lucas Ismalli, MIF, East Lake HS, FL
A twitch middle infielder, he has some present bat speed in a compact swing. Drove a double to right field and stole a base.

Brendan Roney, C/IF, Key West HS, FL
A physical, toolsy player, will most likely stick at catcher where he shows above average, athletic actions. He has a compact swing with strength and had a single in the game.

Jonathan Shoop, OF, Jesuit HS, FL
A strong bodied outfielder, he had an infield single and single to right field during the game.

Tyler Dowdy, 1B, Plant City HS, FL
Physical first baseman with power potential, he drove a double to right field in the game.

Bryce Braxton, 3B/RHP, Pasco HS, FL
A 2021, he has a strong lower half. Offensively, he has a simple swing and generates natural loft. Drove a single to left in his second at bat.
