The Maryland Notebook is an all-encompassing blurb about thoughts from the high school season, summer season, fall ball, etc.
The inaugural Fall Underclass Invitational for PBR Maryland was a great success. 40 talented players in the Maryland / Delaware area were in attendance to showcase their skills and ability. After a day to dissect, here are some early quick hits that came to mind from the event.
+Josh Netterville of Northwest HS set the tone at the beginning running a 6.44 60-yard dash. The 6-foot, 180-pound outfielder will be on plenty of radars with his athletic frame. As he continues to develop at the plate, he should make for an interesting prospect.
+C Colin Adams of Caravel Academy (pictured right) had one of the top performances at the event. A solid build at 6-foot, 195-pounds, Adams showed well behind the plate with his 1.94 pop time and 82 mph catcher velocity. He had an impressive round of batting practice with his gap-to-gap ability and power potential. Adams had one of the top exit velocities of the day hitting 92 mph of the tee.
+Myles Nicholson was another speedster that stuck out as well. Nicholson ran a 6.69 60-yard dash and improved in every category after an already impressive performance at the Underclass Trials in August. Nicholson increased in infield velocity (77 mph, up from 70 mph) as well as his exit velocity at the plate (90 mph up from 84 mph). He showed quick hands at the plate and will be another uncommitted 2017 to keep an eye on during the 2016 high school season.
+Another player to have taken great strides over the course of the year has been 2017 3B Scott Prutting of Landon. Prutting was part of the inaugural event for PBR Maryland at the Maryland Preseason ID in February (CLICK HERE to see the stats from the Preseason ID) and has continued to improve to the tune of a 7.34 60-yard dash, 84 mph infield velocity, and 88 mph exit velocity.
+Garrett Matheny put together another solid showing at the Fall Invite. Interesting player that continues to improve behind the plate.
+Although they only pitched for team Virginia/Maryland at the PBR Future Games, Polytech teammates Joey Haass and Miguel Rivera each put on display their position player ability. Haass ran a 7.10 60-yard dash and showed some bat speed with an 88 mph exit velocity. Rivera showed smooth actions in the field along with a good round of BP and a smooth swing at the plate.
+2017 Ryan Bywaters impressed one week ago getting up to 88 mph on the mound at Saint James school. This week Bywaters sat 84-86 on the mound and also impressed with his bat, showing a quick stroke and also getting up to 95 mph on exit velocity, the top of the day.
+Not to be outdone, the 2018 class held their own as well on Sunday. Top performers include JP Murphy (92 mph exit velo, 6.91 60-yard dash), Jared Hancock (1.94 pop), Joey Silan (pictured right, 88 mph OF velo and exit velo), and Sammy Senders (83 on mound with good command of his breaking ball).
+2018 Colin Taeschner looks to be another interesting prospect. The RHP/1B took a nice round of BP, getting 87 mph on his exit velo with a short stroke from the left side. Taeschner has also worked on his delivery on the mound, taking out a pause in his arm action. You can tell he is still getting used to it, but he was 83 mph on the mound and looks like there is more in the tank with a projectable 6-foot-1 frame and length.
+One of the great things about bringing together players is they tend to push their counterparts to perform at higher levels. That is the beauty of competition. The fall invite was no different. A great day and great event.
More to come from the Fall Underclass Invitational along with the October Fall review in the coming weeks.
