Alex Ramirez, SS, Central High School, 2019
Scouting Notes: Committed to the University of Rhode Island, Ramirez is a slick, twitchy middle infielder with the tools to stick at shortstop once he reaches campus. A left-handed hitter, there is a surprising amount of pop in the bat to the pull side. The bat path is mostly level and stays in the zone for a long time, setting up in an open stance with a small step to even up before the swing. Above average runner as well. His defensive actions are crisp and fluid, with a quick arm that changes slots to speed up plays with ease. Looking forward to seeing him matriculate to the college level.

James Aselta SS / RHP / Weston, CT / 2022Scouting Notes: A week after seeing him in a showcase setting, Aselta did not disappoint in showing that his well-rounded tools show up in game action. After attacking a first pitch fastball in his first at bat for an absolute laser of a homer to left center, opposing pitchers nibbled around him the rest of the afternoon, where he showed maturity beyond his years in the box to work counts. The glove and quick first step were another takeaway, as he was the lead man in a highlight reel double play ranging up the middle as a 2B with a crisp, off balance flip to the pivot man. Aselta has a chance to establish himself atop the New England prospect rankings for his class if he keeps taking steps forward considering how exciting his game already is. |
St. Joseph vs Seymour - 6/6/18

Middletown - Senior right-handed pitcher Austin (A.J.) DeRosa shined in Wednesday night’s elimination game, helping to send Seymour to the finals in Connecticut’s Class M state championship with a complete game shutout over St. Joseph.
In an 8-0 win for Seymour, DeRosa went the distance, flummoxing a talented St. Joseph club with a number of D1 commitments on the offensive side. He struck out five and scattered four hits, commanding the zone throughout the contest with a three-pitch mix.
On the offensive side, Seymour’s 2019 SS John Chacho was responsible for five of the team’s eight runs, scoring twice and driving in three. Making hard contact throughout the game, his two-RBI double to deep right-centerfield helped to push Seymour’s lead to a comfortable distance.
Seymour will faceoff against Wolcott in Saturday’s championship game.
Ben Talbot RHP / 3B / St. Joseph, CT / 2019Rankings StateRank: 95 / POS: 35
Report: Struggled locating his fastball early in this one, leaving it in the zone where opposing hitters could do damage. His heater generally sat in the 84-86 MPH range. At times the pitch had armside movement but was a little straight in this one. Also mixes in a sharp curveball, with rare changeups. The curveball sat at 73-74 MPH in this one with 12/6 shape. A pickoff mistake in the second inning cost him, but there is a lot to like in the package, as a he flashed the ability to work a true three pitch mix moving forward. He’s a notable uncommitted right-hander in the 2019 class. |
