The Top Prospect Games were held August 3rd and 4th at Historic Cherry Creek High School. 50 prospects were on hand to take part in a pro-style showcase followed by two days of games.

Top Prospect Games Catcher Analysis
Logan Balfanz C / 3B / Dakota Ridge High School, CO / 2021Rankings StateRank: 78 / POS: 13
A 5-foot-10, 165-pound right hand hitting catcher/3B from the 2021 class who ran a 7.72 60. He had an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, rhythm in hands, loads against back side, level path with controlled bat speed, gap to gap line drives, has feel for the barrel. Behind the plate, pop time was 2.28 seconds, 70 mph positional velocity, wide base in set up, fluid footwork with momentum to throw working in line towards second base, over the top release, mostly accurate throws some with carry to the bag.

Caleb Cancino C / 3B / Castle View , CO / 2022Rankings StateRank: 22 / POS: 4
A 6-foot, 165-pound right hand hitting catcher/3B from the 2022 class who ran a 6.97 60. He has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, slight hand load with stride, level path through the zone, works both gaps. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.40 and 2.43-seconds, 71 mph positional velocity, footwork creates momentum to throw, clean exchanges, over the top arm slot.

Mason Cope SS / C / Rocky Mountain, CO / 20225-foot-6, 150-pound right hand hitting catcher/SS from the 2022 class who ran a 7.40 60. He has a 74 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, slight hand load with stride, level path through the zone, works both gaps. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.53 and 2.55 seconds, 66 mph positional velocity. Works around the ball in the field, shows a quick glove to hand exchange and throws from a high 3/4 slot.

Nate McHugh C / 2B / Regis Jesuit , CO / 2022A 5-foot-11, 190-pound right hand hitting catcher/2B from the 2022 class who ran a 7.88 60. Stand slightly open at the plate with a long stride to come square. Swing path is uphill with good carry to the left center gap. Strong frame with good lower leg drive and a 77 mph exit velocity. Quiet behind the plate with good athletic actions while blocking. Arm is over the top with a quick transfer and release. Pop-times were 2.28-2.30 with a 68 mph arm.

Bryson Medrano C / 2B / Rocky Mountain , CO / 20225-foot-8, 140-pound right hand hitting 2022 catcher/2B who ran a 7.52 60. He has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin base and tall set up, pre pitch rhythm in hands, hands walk away from in line stride, gap to gap approach, level bat path. Behind the plate, pop times 2.02 to 2.10-seconds, with a 72 mph arm velocity. From the field he has good feet and athletic actions. Fields through the ball and delivers from a high 3/4 arm slot.

Michael Minic 3B / OF / Horizon High School, CO / 2022A 5-foot-9, 160-pound right hand hitting catcher/INF from the 2022 class who ran a 8.53 60. Wide open stance at the plate with a big leg trigger to come square. Hand load slow and weight transfers to the back side. Uphill swing path through the zone. Exit velocity was 72 mph with a pull side approach. Good set up behind the plate with soft hands and quick actions on balls in the dirt. Pop-times were 2.53-2.60 with a 62 mph arm. Plays an aggressive 3rd base, attacks the ball in and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot.

Reese Randell C / 1B / Dakota Ridge High School, CO / 2021Rankings StateRank: 64 / POS: 10
5-foot-9, 150-pound fundamentally sound catcher from the 2021 class who ran a 7.81 60. At the plate, starts in a tall stance, controlled weight shift to back side, toe tap, short in line stride, level path, uses middle of the field. Exit velocity was 76 mph. Behind the plate, pop times between -seconds, 79 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, staggered set up, quick catch and throw on time with footwork, throws have carry, mostly accurate.

A 5-foot-10, 160-pound 2021 right hand hitting catcher/OF who ran a 7.00 60. He had an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable, pre pitch rhythm in hands, minimal load, in line stride, slightly longer swing from left side with pull approach, works gap to gap from right side, slight lift in bat path during finish. Behind the plate, he is athletic and fluid. Delivers from a high 3/4 arm slot with accuracy to the bag. Pop-times were 2.07-2.10 with a 75 mph arm. In the outfield he used his speed to run down several balls in the gaps. Gets behind the ball on his throws and delivers an accurate ball to the bag.

Max Valdez C / 1B / Regis Jesuit, CO / 2021Rankings StateRank: 52 / POS: 7
A 6-foot-3 175-pound right hand hitting catcher from the 2021 class who ran a 7.22 60. He had an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, slight open stance, leg kick, lands slightly closed, accelerates through the ball, quick and strong hands, power to pull side, fast bat speed, feel for the barrel. Behind the plate, 75 mph positional velocity, pop times between 2.09-2.12-seconds, short over the top arm slot, quick exchange, feet create momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws with carry to the bag.
