Junior Sunbelt Classic Tryout Outfield Analysis

The Junior Sunbelt Classic Tryout took place Sunday May 3rd at ThunderRidge High School. 75 players from the 2016 and 2017 classes were on display at this event. Prep Baseball Report Colorado will bring you analysis by position of the players who participated in the showcase. We kicked off our tryout analysis with the catchers, and corners. Next up is the Oufielders.

Kadin Breeze, Rocky Mountain, 2016, OF/RHP
6-foot-1, 165 pound, switch hitting OF/RHP. Breeze showed a strong arm from the outfield throwing 85 mph. with good carry. Attacks the ball aggressively in outfield and plays through the ball well. At the plate stands tall and uses a balanced stance with slight leg kick from both sides. Has a good approach with fast bat speed. Lower half appears better from the left side then the right. Has nice rhythm with good extension with line drive power that produces 81 mph exit velocity from both sides. Ran a 7.33 60 time. On the mound has a high 3/4 arm slot and simple delivery with an athletic finish. Fastball sat at 79 to 80 mph. Good mechanics bring him to the strike zone consistently. Curve ball had 10/4 tilt with late break. Change up was 73-74 mph and was thrown as same arm speed as fastball.
Cameron Brown, D'Evelyn, OF/LHP, 2016
5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder/LHP was 80 MPH from the outfield with carry. Arm is loose and throws from a high ¾ slot. Showcased athletic actions defensively with fluid feet and a clean exchange. Plays through the baseball well. Had the second fastest 60 time at event with a 6.77 time. At the plate hits from an athletic open setup with wide feet. Has a load that is back and down. Short stride with leg-kick. Balance is good. Bat path is long and on a level swing plane. Has gap to gap power Registered a 80 MPH exit velocity.
Bailey Collins, Dakota Ridge, 2016, OF/1B
5-foot-11, 180 pound, left-handed hitting outfielder. Was 79 from the outfield from a long arm action and max effort but increased velocity from last event we saw him in March. Possesses a strong athletic frame. Defensively, showcased good hands with fluid feet. Plays through the baseball well. Has great range in the outfield. Had a 7.06 60 time. At the plate starts in an athletic setup. Load is smooth and uses a short stride. Bat speed is explosive with gap to gap power. Lower half had good transition and is also explosive. Has opposite field power. Had an exit velocity of 87 MPH, but we have had him at 88 mph before. Consistently gets to extension.
Quin Cotton, Regis Jesuit, 2016, OF
5-foot-11, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. Impressive looking athlete. At the plate has no wasted movement from a balanced athletic stance. Load is smooth and stride is short. Bat speed and lower half are explosive. Has line drive gap to gap power that produced the 2nd fastest exit velocity at the tryout at 91 mph. Shows power potential. In the outfield displays confidence with good actions. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot at 84 mph with good carry. Ran a 6.80 60 time. Was the most athletic looking player at the tryout. High 2016 player to follow in our state.
Ryan Faircloth, Dakota Ridge, 2016, OF/RHP
5-foot-10, 150-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder. Over-the-top release, mostly accurate throws, loose arm action, 79 MPH positional velocity, but we have had as high as 81 mph in past events. Has a quick exchange, fluid footwork. Has good actions in the outfield. At the plate, has a balanced, athletic set-up, slight leg kick and short stride with no wasted movement, fast bat speed, level to extension. Has a short path to the ball. Swing is in and out of zone that creates gap to gap power, and produces 81 mph exit velocity. Faircloth has a great approach to the plate with the ability to hit balls thrown inside and out. In the tryout hit two home runs.
Michael Forlenza, Highlands Ranch, 2016, OF/MIF
5-foot-10, 160 pounds. Bats and throws right. Has a slight open stance with smooth load. Stride is long with very slight leg-kick. Has a short path to the ball with extension. Line drive, gap to gap power that produced 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. Versatile athlete who looks like he can start at any position in the outfield or infield besides first base. In the outfield has good actions and mechanics. Plays well through the ball and throws from a 3/4 arm slot at 77 mph. Ran a 7.17 60 time. Utility type of player that can help teams.
Marcellous Gonzalez, Fountain Fort Carson, OF/LHP
5-foot-10, 167 pounds. Bats and throws left. Starts with a tall balanced stance. Hands load back smooth. Uses leg kick with short stride. Has slight uphill swing with pull tendencies. Line drive power that produces 80 mph exit velo off the tee. In the outfield attacks the ball aggressively and plays through ball well. Threw 69 mph from right field to 3rd. Has good range and speed in the outfield. Ran a 7.13 60 time.
Michael Gribel, Columbine, 2017, OF
5-foot-9, 160 pounds. Bats and throws right. Has athletic balanced stance. Drops hands in load and lifts the ball with one hand finish. Has gap to gap tendencies. Good bat speed that produced a solid 87 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the outfield showcased a strong arm at his age at 83 mph. Has good range and speed in the outfield. Good looking 2017 athlete.
Bailey Hansen, Air Academy, 2016, OF
6-foot-5, 2015 pound. Player who shows a lot of power potential. At the plate hits from a tall, balanced stance and short stride. Simple swing lets his hands and bat speed do the work. Showed power at the plate hitting 2 homeruns at the tryout. Bat comes through the zone and generates good back-spin on the ball for drive and carry, and produced a 92 mph exit velo off the tee. Has good lower half. In the outfield gets behind ball well on fly balls. Projects as a corner OF. Threw 83 mph at the tryout. Ran a 7.31 60 time. Player to follow.
Jordan Luthi, Legacy, 2016, OF/RHP
6-foot-0, 165-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder. Good looking 2-way player for Legacy. At the plate, uses athletic stance, with short slight leg-kick with good leg drive, level bat path to extension, power to pull gap, quick bat speed with 86 MPH exit velocity. Defensively, 87 MPH positional velocity which was increased from our last event in March, high over the top release, mostly accurate throws with life, clean exchange, good routes to ball, fluid footwork. Plays through the ball well and shows good range and speed. Ran a 7.10 60 time. On the mound is very fluid and athletic looking towards the plate with an over the top arm-slot. Has a good long stride with good leg drive to the mound. Fastball sat at 78-79 mph with a max fastball of 80 mph. Curveball was a 12/6 angle with good tilt at 63 mph. Change had good arm speed and was 67-68 mph.
Jonathon Miranda, Mullen, 2016, OF/2B
5-foot-9, 165-pound, left-handed hitting outfielder. High 3/4 release with long/loose arm action, clean exchange, plays thru the ball, 77 MPH positional velocity, mostly accurate throws. We had Miranda at 81 mph in the early spring at an event. Offensively, athletic stance, good lower half at contact. Swing is slight uphill that produces line drive power. Love his extension through the hitting zone. Has pull tendencies with gap power. Lower half is good. Bat speed produced an 87 mph exit velocity off a tee. Ran a 7.51 60 time. Potential 3 hole hitter for Mullen next year.
Brody McGhehey, Bayfield, 2016, OF/RHP
6-foot, 170 pounds. Bats ands throws right. Has balanced, wide stance. Hands start on should then load down. Swing is level through zone that produced line drives. Bats speed registered a 77 mph exit velocity off a tee. Has long loose arm from the outfield and throws the ball from a high 3/4 arm slot. Ranges well in the OF. Threw 76 mph from right field to 3rd. Ran a 7.58 60 time.
Travis Parker, Grandview, 2016, OF
6-foot-1, 180 pounds. Bats and throws right. At the plate stands tall with slight load, short stride and good lower half. Really gets a lot out of an uphill swing with pull tendencies. Finishes high with good extension. Bat speed produced an 84 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the outfield throws from over the top at 81 mph. Plays behind ball well in the air and moves through it well on the ground. Ran a 7.00 60 time. Good looking athlete.
Tanner Robinson, Pomona, 2016, OF
5-foot-6, 150 pounds. Bats and throws right. Showcased the best speed at the tryout running a 6.75 60 time. In the outfield has long loose arm from over the top motion. Threw 73 mph from right field to 3rd. Ranges well in the outfield and plays behind fly ball well. At the plate has some rhythm and swagger. Hands are high and load to ball smooth, short stride with line drive level swing, good extension and one hand finish. Bat speed produced 77 mph exit velocity off the tee. Nice potential at lead off position.
Cooper Shearon, Mountain Vista, OF/3B 2016
6-foot-1, 215 pounds. Bats left, and throws right. Strong looking player. At the plate has open stance with slight leg kick. Hands load smoothly back, and had slight uphill swing with good extension. Has good gap to gap power potential. Bat speed produced 87 mph exit velocity. From his position gets behind ball well from outfield. Throws from high 3/4 arm slot at 77 mph. Most likely a corner outfielder. Also could play corner infield.
Nathan Wiggins, Resurrection Christian, OF, 2016
6-foot-1, 180 pounds. Bats and throws right. Has a wider stance, hands up high with short load. Swings down to the ball producing line drives gap to gap. No stride. Finishes with one hand. 84 mph exit velocity. Moves well in outfield with smooth actions. Good range. Has long and loose arm from high 3/4 arm slot, throwing 78 mph from OF. Ran a 7.13 60 time.
