GREENWOOD VILLAGE — The first big event for Prep Baseball Report Colorado —the Colorado Top Prospect Games — wrapped up on Sunday for a successful weekend for the players involved. It was another day of strong baseball. We will have a detailed analysis out on Monday, but here are some comments on some player highlights witnessed on Sunday:
Pitching:
Taylor Dye, Columbine 2016: The Rebels top pitcher showed a 82-84 fastball and a 70 mph change with good downward movement. Dye had 3 k’s in 2 innings of work.
Marc Alva, Columbine 2015: The Rebels have another potential arm in Alva for the 2015 spring season. He worked at a fast pace using a 75-77 fastball, and mixing in a 67 curve with a sharp 10/4 break. Alva had 2 K’s in his one inning of work.
Marcelo Sanchez, Lakewood 2016: Sanchez showed a 78-79 fastball with 2 k’s in 2 innings of work. Over the weekend he played a solid third base and showed very good bat speed in batting evals.
Casey Thompson, Lakewood 2016: Another 2016 grad for Lakewood flashed an effortless 77-79 fb while mixing in a 62-64 curve. Had on strikeout in 1 inning of work
Ty Lightly, Dakota Ridge 2016: Lightly was consistently 77 with his fb and showed 60-62 curve 2 k’s working quick to the plate. Could be another option on the mound for the Eagles this spring.
Hitting:
Doug Case, Dakota Ridge 2016: Case continued to be productive at the plate going 1-1 with sac fly and 1 RBI (4 RBI for weekend which led both teams)
Braden Smith, Lakewood 2016: Athletic outfielder had a good day going 2-2 with a 4.21 home to first time. Effortless and smooth runner.
Carson Jax, Cherry Creek 2015: Carson was 2-2 with 2 SB (5 for the weekend).
Parker Jax, Cherry Creek 2015: Parker was 1-2 with an RBI double to right center. Had fastest pop-time of the weekend coming in at 1.97.
Jared Chick, Roosevelt 2016: Chick is a sleeper in our state. Had another good day going 2-2 with RBI double and a 8.62 home to second time.
Tommy Sautel, Dakota Ridge 2015: Strong athletic built shortstop was 1-1 with sac fly and 1 RBI
Tommy Gillman, Columbine 2106: Gillman wrapped up a good weekend showing more versatility by playing 5 positions this weekend (SS, 2B, RF, LF, P) and also had 2.07 pop time in catcher drills.
*We will have a more detailed recap written on Monday 8/18. All stats and pictures have been uploaded on the site.
