PODCAST: SoCal ProCase Recap

ORANGE, CA. - The 2019 MLB Draft completed on June 5th, and on June 8th, it was time to turn our attention to the 2020 class at the SoCal ProCase. A select group of players were chosen to participate in this exclusive event geared toward high level collegiate and draft prospects.

Players were put through a pro-style workout - 60 yard dash, exit velocity testing, BP, defensive workout - before participating in scout ball format game that saw eight pitchers toe the rubber. PBR California scouting staff collected various stats/data during the workout and game which can be found HERE.

In this edition of the SoCal ProCase Spotlight we highlight:

OF TREVOR TISHENKEL (Poway HS)

Rising senior OF Trevor Tishenkel, PBR California’s #20 ranked player and a University of California, Berkley commit, is listed at 6-feet, 175lbs. Tishenkel sits on a medium-broad, flexible, agile, athletic frame. Has strong, sloped shoulders to a compact core and a high waist. Sturdy lower half that has potential to outgrow present speed with room to add muscle and strength all around.

Tishenkel is a natural, patient hitter that displayed an advanced feel for the barrel with lots of loud contact in his three rounds of BP on this day. In all my views, over three years, he takes aggressive in-game at-bats, and shows the hand-eye and pitch recognition to hit in all counts. Starts with a quiet, balanced setup, a moderate load and hand separation before firing. Shows plus bat speed, tremendous balance and extension through contact, and already exhibits some pull side power. In game power is still more to gaps presently and will develop into over the fence power as he matures and adds strength naturally. Really looks hitterish.

Tishenkel’s athleticism certainly plays up in the outfield and shows tools that will serve him well in college and professional baseball. His first step and reactions to the ball off the bat are consistent and reveals his ability to lock into a pitch-to-pitch philosophy with range into the gaps with ease. Has the speed to cover mistakes and can make deviations easily in his routes to balls. Arm really took a jump forward this season and plays up because of his ability to get to balls quickly and get rid of it quickly. Throws are accurate with carry the majority of the time, has some arm side tail, often one-hopping the mitt.

The run tool plays up as well and Tishenkel gives consistent effort with his speed improving year-to-year. Shows he is a better runner underway. Tishenkel is an instinctive, opportunistic baserunner with excellent awareness. Has enough to steal a bag and take the extra base when the situation calls.  Makes good reads off the bat, dirt and has fast 1st-to-3rd and 2nd-to-home times.

Tishenkel has pro-formed in all my looks and continues to improve his overall game. He plays the game with enthusiasm and emotion that is refreshing to watch. He will be called upon to be one of the leaders for the Titans of Poway High School next year after the departure of a few impact seniors.
