TOP INFIELDERS AT NORCAL UNDERCLASS TRIALS

Vinnie Bachelier 2B / SS / Capital Christian, CA / 2020

Good all-around tools stood out, with raw arm strength across diamond at 78 mph, one of the top exit speeds off the tee at 87 mph, 60-time of 7.16 and strong hitting tools. Versatile enough to play just about anywhere in the infield with a good build that will only get stronger and more physical in the coming years.

Derek Williams 2B / RHP / Vacaville, CA / 2020

Athletic player with a very noticeable baseball motor and passion for playing. Tools are there now and will only improve, with 79 mph across the diamond and approaching 80 mph off the tee. Short to the ball and highly competitive stroke though can work to be flatter and stay out of the air too much. Throws tracked across the diamond well and stayed on-line. Seems like a baseball rat!

Harrison Kohagura 3B / OF / Vintage , CA / 2020

Not the biggest kid but he is strong, with hands and strength from his elbows to his fingers. Decent runner but it's his strength, bat speed and ability to drive the ball that should have him noticed by college coaches, as his 93 mph exit speed was far and away the top at the showcase. Solid arm across the diamond, certainly capable of being playable at 3rd base or 2nd base or left field. Good intensity & focus.

Aidan Lawrence SS / 2B / California, CA / 2020

Athletic player with some twitchiness about him. His 60 time of 6.94 stood out among all the players as one of the few sub-7.0 times and with a projectable throwing arm and hint at present and future bat speed (79 mph off the tee), Lawrence is one to watch. He's a lean and wiry bodied player and the tools and athleticsim and body type are exactly what we see on projectable talents. Mechanically he does tend to play and hit a little tall so that is something to watch.

Nicholas Thomson SS / 2B / Valley Christian, CA / 2020

One of the more complete all-around position players at the showcase, Thomson is a switch-hitter with a good arm (81 mph) and also showed 83 mph exit off the tee. Not the swiftest runner at 7.67 so he can work to lower that time toward the 7.4 range to give him a better shot to stay in the middle as a college player. Showed more strength and gap potential on the right side. Defensively his footwork stood out during the defensive evaluations.

David Rodriguez 3B / Vacaville, CA / 2020

Not real complicated to see what stood out about Rodriguez. Physically he has the body type that stands out and yet still physically projects well. He's a left-handed hitter with pull side power and though he is currently a bit rotational in his approach, he has bat speed and projectable usable power (84 mph exit speed). The arm showed well across the diamond at 78 mph and also showed up on the mound. Has the tools and strength of a potentially power hitting 3rd baseman.

Kobe Rolling 2B / SS / Will C. Wood, CA / 2021

Good feet on this left-hand hitting middle infielder. Not just good feet but he moves around with agility and showed good anticipation (noticeable while shagging during BP) to both his left and right. 60 time not exactly reflective of how his feet work on defense, with his quickness standing out vs raw speed. Arm strength is that of a 2nd baseman but obviously kids can work on arm strength. Offensively he showed bat speed, worked the middle of the field and generally stayed short to the ball.

Danny Garcia SS / RHP / San Leandro , CA / 2021

Intriguing tool set on this 2021 player. Compact build that is well-suited for playing around the bag, foot speed/quickness may need to increase a tick or two to elevate to higher levels of college ball interest, however the 80 mph arm strength and 81 mph exit speed indicate that he's got good tools to work with. Bat speed also showed up in the BP round though he can work to be a bit more linear. Defensively he showed a good release and good carry on his throws.

Richard Mealey SS / RHP / Benicia , CA / 2020

Lean and wiry bodied player with a build that is quite projectable and an arm action that is equally projectable. Loose arm with 78 mph velocity across the diamond and it comes out easily, suggesting that it's natural arm strength and not forced. Offensively he isn't in a hurry and doesn't force his swing, rather he makes a smooth move to and through the ball, and again, with 80 mph exit speed, his approach allows his tools to live. Ran 7.37 so that can be cut down a tick or two and as he matures and strengthens, all he does should start so show up bigger.

Matty Fung SS / 2B / Junipero Serra, CA / 2020

Wiry and thin, obviously still some time away from physical maturity, Fung does have some tools that are starting to show up. In particular, his 6.98 60 time for a player listed at 5-foot-9 130-pounds suggests that he's got good twitch and that will project positively for him. 76 mph exit speed isn't yet notable on its own, but it is given his size and present strength. His bat speed did show up in the BP round, so it's all in there. Confident fielder, would like to see one less pat as he gets ready to throw but he moves well and has soft hands.
