INSIDE THE 2023 RANKINGS: INFIELDERS
May 10, 2021
Ten of the top twenty-one 2023 class players are infielders, with five of these players remaining uncommitted. The talent at the top is elite, with many of these athletes already on pro scouting radars. The usual PAC-12 powerhouses in Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State and UCLA did their due diligence in securing early commitments. Today we focus on the top ten infielders in California that lead an overall deep class. We are excited to continue following the prep careers of the infielders we have already seen, and look forward to seeing new players make jumps into future rankings.
Athleticism and the hit tool seem to be the theme with the top ten 2023 infielders. Current success, projectable swings, power, multi-position capability and fielding prowess are all things shared at the top. Five uncommitted players give this group a lot of intrigue and set the table for a big 2021 recruiting summer. Nolan Stevens offers a power bat and power arm from the left-side showing real potential to play both ways at the next level. Arguably the best athlete in the group in Will Burns, offers glimpses of 5 tools. Switch-hitting infielder JP Acosta shined at the Preseason All-State from both sides of the plate, while flashing elite fielding skills and instincts at shortstop. Casey Borba’s power bat and Kai Carranto’s overall skill-set highlighted the 2020 Future Games for Team California.
Committed players in Grahovac, Roellig, Caraway, Bitonti and Kim share advanced hitting tools and projectable skill sets. Grahovac is already playing like a future high school draft pick with his play standing out amongst older players. Caraway and Kim future’s may not be at shortstop but their athleticism gives them positional flexibility. Bitonti flashed his left-handed power bat at the underclass area code games and is the type of player that could thrive at Arizona.
