LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - As we recently released our updated Class of 2020 state rankings we thought we'd provide you a closer look at a few of these prospects. Rankings are never easy and we certainly know they are not an exact science. Much of rankings is predicated on what our team of scouts have seen, but given the national scope of the Prep Baseball Report network, we are more than able to access a library of over 100,00 players nationwide to compare apples-to-apples.

It's a given that California is either 1 or 1a in terms of talent in any given year. There isn't that much debate as to who the top players are because they've generally been identified at a much younger age. After all, the top players are easily identified.

However, given the amount of games, innings, at-bats, and pitches our team has seen over the last two-to-three years of watching this class, we feel confident knowing that nobody in the industry has seen more players in addition to those easily identified from California than our collective team. 

And because of that level of confidence we feel our rankings best reflect the overall talent in the state.

THE PLAYERS

#4 JARED JONES - LA MIRADA HS - TEXAS SIGNEE

The top ranked RHP in the state, Jones has been a known name for 3+ years. Touching 99 on the mound, he lives comfortably 94-97 with the fastball but it's hit changeup at 91-92 that's the real difference maker in his arsenal. Slider is wicked too.

#19 HUNTER BARNHART - ST. JOSEPH HS - ARIZONA STATE SIGNEE

Perhaps no pitcher in the state had more helium this spring than Barnhart who was working into the low-90's with ease and repeatability. Command of all pitches has improved significantly. 

#20 JOSH SWALES - GRACE BRETHEREN HS - ARIZON SIGNEE

Stood out at the Area Code Tryout where he flashed an easy, loose arm and a three-pitch mix . Fastball is showing more consistent sinking action while his backdoor slurve to LHH is brutally tough to hit.

#48 ISAAC AYON - BUCHANAN HS - OREGON SIGNEE

One of the biggest risers after a huge summer saw him show very well at the NorCal ProCase before showing up and shoving at Area Code Games. Velo is up to 93 - a climb of 5 mph since last summer.

#49 JAKE BROOKS - FOUNTAIN VALLEY HS - UCLA SIGNEE

Brooks was off to a spectacular start on the mound and at the plate this spring. At 6-foot-4, 185-pounds Brooks oozes projection with a loose, whippy arm and a frame that is going to add mass.
