Game Notes (CA): Elite 8 Day 2
April 30, 2019
San Jose, CA - Day Two of the first round of the Saint Francis Elite 8 Tournament saw 2 games with 3 teams from different parts of Northern California and a Southern California team matching up. Below is a breakdown on the players who stood out including in-depth coverage with video.
Game Notes:
GM1:
Wilcox -7
California (San Ramon) - 0
GM2:
Paraclete - 2
St. Francis - 0
Players of Note:
2022 OF Raoul Fabian (California) - Uncommitted. Medium frame with some budding strength and projectable build. Only got 1 AB but showed a lot of good things; balance, approach, and patience. Keeps front shoulder locked in during swing and has growing bat speed with strong hands/wrists. Good 1st step in CF and flashed some closing speed. A 2022 to watch over the Summer/Fall.
2019 RHP Alex Adame (Wilcox) - Uncommitted. Medium long frame with a high waist and lean strength throughout. Showed two-way abilities going CG shutout giving up 3 hits, walking 1 and striking out 5. Consistently worked ahead all day moving his FB to all four quadrants and showing a swing and miss CB. FB 77-79 T80 MPH showing good plane and ability to spot as needed. CB 67-70 MPH with late depth from short actions on 12/5 shape going to the pitch as needed. Also contributed two hits staying back on a BB and taking it RF and slashing a FB to the oppo field.
2020 OF Nathan Oliveira (Wilcox) - Uncommitted. Athletic medium frame with width in the frame. Showed off athleticism in LF tracking down balls and being able to close on the ball. Showed off his foot speed when he tripled into RCF on a hanging CB to get Wilcox on the board (4.5T). Arm is fair with LF being the best spot for him.
2019 SS Izzy Galindo (St. Francis) - Uncommitted. Small frame with athleticism. Played SS in game after earlier viewings at Catcher. Showed good footspeed and fair range at position; probably could fit in at 2B/SS/C/OF. Consistently around the ball on defense and plays hard. Fair arm that he really has to get into to make long throws. Flashed some baserunning instinct on hit-and-run not slowing down around 2nd base on ball to 3B getting to 3rd on a groundout. Executes and does little things like sacrifice and strong leadoff skills.
2019 SS Walker Fleming (Paraclete) - Uncommitted. Very long and lean athletic build. Showed good range at SS being able to go get the ball into OF and across the bag. Solid footwork around the bag during pre-game with enough arm strength to stick at position. Showed compact swing with balanced approach; took a hanging breaking ball and lined it into LF before beating out an INF single into the 4 hole. Athletic runner with ability to go 1st to 3rd.
In Depth Coverage:
2019 RHP Joey Estes (Paraclete) - Long Beach State Commit. Looked fantastic in outing showing off a 4 pitch mix and the frame to be a top of the rotation guy if he gets to Long Beach State; should hear his name called in MLB Draft.
