CCS Focus (CA): Round 1 Update

Salinas got one back in the bottom of the 1st when 2019 1B Nathan Martorella put together a 7-pitch AB before crushing a double over the head of the centerfielder and advanced to 3rd on a passed ball. 2020 3B Max Farfan followed with another deep count before getting a FB and driving it to CF to score the run.

Salinas added their big inning in the 2nd when 2019 C Lane Radley got a 1B over the head of the SS which was repeated by 2019 RF Altie Melendrez putting runners at 1st and 2nd. An error on a bunt would load the bases for Martorella who came up with a 1B to RCF.scoring two. A throwing error by Jones off the head of the runner at 3rd would bring around 3 more runs to make it a 5 run inning and putting the Cowboys up 6-3.

2019 Salinas LHP Nathan Chapman settled in after the HR in the 1st getting six straight outs until Dressler ripped a triple to start the Bruins offense followed by a double from Rynhard making it 6-4. 2019 Branham RHP Max Orkin pitched out of a 2nd and 3rd situation with 2 big K’s to prevent any damage ending the 3rd . In the 4th Orkin left a FB over the plate and Farfan made him pay, hitting a line drive to RF that continued to carry showing the power in Farfan’s bat.

Chapman worked through the 4th and 5th with no trouble before a hard leadoff 1B by Jones giving him his 2 hit in 3 ABs. Salinas couldn’t turn a double play and that led to some trouble with 2019 CF Henry Wright stealing second base followed by a walk and double over the third baseman’s head making it 6-5. A BB, 2B over the head of the left fielder, sac-fly and single off a diving 3B glove made it 7-7. Salinas had a chance in the 7th when they collected 2 1B’s before a 5U-3 double play ended the threat.

Branham got a run in the 8th when they got two runners on with walks split by a sac bunt. After a Fielder's Choice, Dressler executed a perfect hit-and-run hitting the vacated 6-hole and scoring the run. Salinas wouldn’t go away with a leadoff double by Radley before stealing 3rd, but couldn’t get a hit and Branham took the 8-7 Victory.

2020 3B Max Farfan (Salinas) - Uncommitted. I’d mentioned Farfan as being a guy to watch this Playoffs as he’d impressed me in multiple viewings then did it again during this game.
