Arizona 2023 Rankings Updated

The PBR Arizona- Class of 2023 Player Rankings has had its first initial update as of May 6th, 2020.  We are looking forward to seeing many more players compete this summer as we were in the spring. We feel for all of the players out there that have worked so hard to be able to compete this season and we will be there for added coverage soon. The first list of Top players from the 2023 class have been highlighted and identified.  This group of 60 players includes players from all over the state of Arizona that play across the different classifications of high school baseball. Over the last several months PBR Arizona has used valued PBR Staff, Scouts, and local coaches as resources to start and organize  this list. In this update, we will get our first glimpse into the 2023 class as PBR hasn’t published a list on these Freshmen to date. There will be plenty of updates to this list in the future. Our next update will come in the summer once baseball in Arizona resumes. Let’s take a look at our newly updated class of 2023 State Player Rankings:

Cholowsky’s experience lands him at No.1

SS, Roch Cholowsky (Hamilton) lands at No. 1 on first initial 2023 rankings. The young prospect gained some experience & confidence this spring before the season was cut short, starting on varsity for the defending 6A champions. Although, he plays mostly SS with his own age group, he was a natural in the CINF for the Huskies.  At 6-foot 160-pounds, he sports a projectable body with some present strength, and good athleticism. Room to add more positive strength. Multiple sport athlete who also plays some QB in football. Confident actions for a SS. Easy repeatable swing w/ pop, power potential. Look for Cholowsky to be a name heard a lot over the next couple years.

Wadas take the No. 2 spot

LHP/1B Zach Wadas (Brophy College Prep) takes the No. 2 spot. Wadas came to our Preseason All-State Games back in January. Had an overall rusty day but it was good enough to give us a glimpse what lies ahead for the future. With two-way potential and standing at 6-foot-3 180-pounds. His body stand outs for a freshmen, young lean frame with long legs and arms, more maturing left. Left-handed hitter with some rawness to approach. Hits from a wide athletic base with knee bend, turning knee inward as he goes slightly forward into foot strike. Works from underneath the baseball, trying to drive in the air. Natural pop at 93mph arm strength. His power potential has a chance to come before others. Confident actions and good target in the infield. Athleticism around the bag. Also pitched at the event. Tall athletic delivery with some repeatability, pushing off early. Throwing with over-top arm action with short arm swing. FB worked 79-80mph with some slight cutting action. We had a chance to see him when he was in more shape on the mound in the fall where he worked up to 83mph. Mixed in a gradual CV with downer shape at 64-69mph. High ceiling two-way prospect to follow.

Swing-and-miss potential from Sanchez

LHP, Adolfo Sanchez (Mountain Pointe) will be an arm to follow going forward here and has some of the best stuff in the class currently. We haven’t had a chance to see him up close at one of our events yet but he’s stood out throughout our coverage in the fall and to start the spring season. We had a chance to see him come in relief for Ethan Long in a game this spring where he worked his FB up to 84 mph with free & easy action. Fast arm with above average movement. His secondary stuff really stands out including a SL that has shown to be a swing-and-miss pitch for him. Standing at 5-foot-10 145-pounds, he has good chance to make some jumps velocity wise as he starts to physically mature.

Strong winter showing from Kucherak

SS, Ryan Kucherak (Hamilton) comes in at No. 5. The defending 6A state champions seem to be locked and loaded over the next several years with two shortstops in the top 5. Kucherak attended our Preseason All-State Games back in January as well and had a strong showing. Currently, Kucherak seems to have the right tools to stick at SS into the future. At 6-foot, 160-pounds, long lean body with present athleticism, twitchy movements. Hitting from a squared semi spread out base, he used a leg lift with minimal forward movement, standing up at foot strike occasionally. Showed bat speed, staying in the zone with a flat path to the baseball. Quick swing but got slightly long at times, dropping barrel head a bit in BP. Aggressive approach with some raw power staying in control, using the whole field. Above average contact at 86mph. Ran a 7.14 60-yard dash on a slow track. Instincts are above his age with a quick first step. Fielded balls cleanly, out in front. 85mph arm strength across the diamond. Strong follow over next few years.
