2021 Updated Rankings Released
December 28, 2017
With the lights and cameras of Williamsport closer than those of Omaha, the Class of 2021 still holds 45 commitments in the updated and expanded PBR Rankings. Many others not in the top 75 are also committed, as the breakneck pace of recruiting shows no sign of slowing. But that discussion is for another time. While still young, and waiting for their first taste high school baseball, the 2021 class has already shown advanced skills on a national scene with some players outshining those two and three years their senior.
With an introductory fall season behind us, the initial rankings have expanded by a modest 25 players. The spring season will give our boots-on-the-ground the chance to continue identifying the top prospects in the class. It will also allow for the prospects to continue to mature as there will most definitely be major improvements and jumps made by all of them before they graduate.
It is important to note that the PBR Overall Rankings only reflect the states that we intimately cover. The updated and expanded Top 75 Class of 2021 rankings is comprised of our current 35-state coverage area.
Within the Prep Baseball Report coverage area, Miami holds the most commitments with seven, followed by Louisville (six), and Wake Forest (four). Eight of the top 10 prospects are now verbally committed, though.
Continuing to hold onto the No. 1 ranking is SS/RHP Luke Leto (Portage Central HS, MI), one of just two uncommitted players in the top 10. Leto is an impressive athlete, and while he is advanced physically, still shows signs of growing into his proportional, 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame. He features a fluid and powerful left-handed stroke, and his easy movements on defense will allow him to play any position on the field in the future. Combine all of his positional abilities with the fact that he is also up to 91 mph on the mound, and Leto has a chance to be a special talent in the future.
3B Blaze Jordan (Desoto Central HS, MS), a Mississippi State recruit, dominated pitchers in all classes throughout the summer and fall. His quick hands rip through the zone on a short path, and he shows plus power to all fields. A durable, 6-foot-1, 217 pounds, Jordan also showcases a quick arm on the mound where he has been up to 89 mph with his fastball.
RHP Alejandro Rosario (Miami Christian HS, FL), a Miami recruit, holds one of the more impressive arsenals of any pitcher in high school, as his electric arm already whips out fastballs up to 94, along with advanced feel for his secondary offerings. The wiry, 6-foot, 170-pound right-hander looks like a future ace, and will likely add a substantial amount of strength in the future.
C Ian Moller (Dubuque Wahlert HS, IA), a Louisiana State recruit, utilizes quick feet, a smooth transfer, and strong throwing arm to produce consistent pop times below 2.0, and has been as low as 1.9. Combine his advanced catching skills with quick hands and a short stroke that causes the ball to jump off his bat, and Moller is instantly a high-level prospect.
New to the rankings is impressive LHP/OF Brock Selvidge (Hamilton HS, AZ). The long, lean, and athletic left-hander is comfortably up to 87 mph with his fastball. He uses a clean arm stroke and repeatable delivery to pepper the strike zone with a multitude of pitches. The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder is a gifted athlete, and also shows feel for the barrel while hitting from the right side.
