Top 5 Unsigned Seniors
September 5, 2014
By Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director
As things move along in the recruiting world, colleges have begun to contact 2016 graduates. However, there are still plenty of talented 2015 prospects in Arkansas. We take a look at the top five unsigned seniors in Arkansas' 2015 class. This has been a deep class with several premiere prospects making early commitments. 1. Daniel Sprinkle, RHP, 6-4, 240, White Hall HS
Sprinkle will have plenty of decisions to make over the next few months. The four-star football recruit will have to decide which sport he wants to play before he decides on a school, so it may be a while before a decision is made. The loose arm and raw power he possesses allows any baseball talent evaluator to dream on what could be if his focus does become baseball. The secondary stuff needs work, but the fastball is 89-92 and has heavy downward sink. Arkansas, Auburn, and Ole Miss have all showed interest.
2. Cody Davenport, RHP, 6-0, 200, Fayetteville HS
Davenport really understands how to pitch. He is working off a fastball at 86-90, and can throw his off speed pitches for strikes. The slider likely needs to gain more depth and the arm speed stay the same on the curveball, but they are both quality pitches. Arkansas and Arkansas Little Rock are in the mix.
3. Ty Harpeneau, RHP 6-1, 175, Fort Smith Southside HS
A quality two pitch guy, Harpeneau has a fastball 86-89 and a sharp slider 77-79. He really understands how to pitch and knows the game well overall. There is a little extra effort in his delivery but he still maintains good mechanics. Oklahoma State and Texas Tech seem to be in the top two.
4. Walker Powell, RHP, 6-5, 220, Fayetteville HS
Powell has a projectable frame and an athletic skill set. He has made a huge velocity jump from the beginning of his junior year. His fastball is now up to 90 mph, pitching 86-88. He locates the fastball well and has a feel on the breaking ball. His breaking ball has a slurve action, but he can throw it for a strike. Arkansas Little Rock, Arkansas State, and Oklahoma State are in the lead.
5. Ben Madison, RHP, 6-2, 175, Bauxite HS
Madison is a premier athlete that runs a 6.5 60. He has a clean quick arm, with a fastball 87-90. It appears that there is more in the tank. The curveball has 12/6 action (71-74) with good depth. The change up is serviceable but is still a work in progress. No decisions have been made, recruiting is still wide open.
