As we move closer and closer to state tournament, more and more is revealed about who teams are. This week some teams took a tumble for surprising losses while others were rewarded for consistent play over the past few weeks. Post Season play starts at the 4A level and down this week, we are getting closer and closer to figuring out who is are the contenders in every classification.
At the Top.
Bryant and Conway stay at the two spots, as both teams appear to be on a collision course to meet in the 7A State finals. Conway did drop a non-conference game to Benton this week, however, Benton is playing its best baseball of the season and looks to be a front runner in the 6A Classification.
New to Poll
No. 16 Gosnell: The Pirates have rolled through conference play, and are looking like a team to beat in 4A. The impressive season they are having deserves some acknowledgment.
No. 19 Fayetteville: The Purple Dogs are silently climbing their way into the 7A West picture, after a slow start they are in the mix. A series sweep against No. 3 Har-Ber this week and they should have a share of first place.
No. 20 Jonesboro: The Hurricanes swept Searcy in 6A East conference play putting them in the driver’s seat for a bye in the state tournament. Any team with a buy will have a punchers chance to be in the finals.
Moving up
Benton: The Panthers had a monster week, beating two Top 20 teams and flexing their muscles doing it beat conference leader Sheridan 10-3 and beating No. 2 Conway 15-14 on Saturday. This is a group that has been a part of state tournament runs in the past and they look like they are hitting their stride.
North Little Rock: The battle of the 7A East was last week and the Charging Wildcats walked with two convincing wins over the Cabot. With just two series left and a two game lead, expect North Little Rock to clinch a one seed and a bye in the state tournament. Heads up 2016 RHP Christian Goshen is as tough as anyone. A win by Goshen and North Little Rock is in the Semi-finals with a solid defense and deep line up.
