Natural State Games; Roster Preview Team Red
October 26, 2017
The Natural State Games are this Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will be hosted at Lamar Porter Field in Little Rock, AR and Sunday will be at the University of Central Arkansas, in Conway. The Red team will play 1:45 PM on Saturday and will compete at 11:15 and 3:45 on Sunday. Let us take a look, the roster for Team Red.
2018’s
Bryce Dodd Clinton, HS; Dodd may be the best athlete in the event. A game changing run tool, as he has consistently ran sub 6.5 in the 60. A versatile defender who will stick in the middle of the field at the next level either at short stop or centerfield. Offensively there is some stiffness to his swing but he has shown to produce line drives and loud contact. He is currently uncommitted.
Garrett Dennis, Watson Chapel HS; Dennis is an advanced defender with solid arm strength, He receives well and shows proper technique while he blocking. Offensively he attacks the baseball with an uphill bat path and fast bat speed. Dennis is committed to Connors State College.
2019’s
Jackson Huskey, Heber Springs HS; Huskey is an advanced left-handed hitter. He has shown the ability to hit line drives to all fields. He starts with an athletic stance, he attacks the baseball with fast bat speed and a line drive swing. Defensively he has shown the ability to play 2nd base or a corner outfield position.
Nick Jones, Baptist Prep; Jones is a versatile player that has shown promise as a left-handed hitter. Defensively he can play multiple position, nut projects best behind the plate. He has a strong showing this summer for the East Coast Sox and I am intrigued to see his growth, as player that is starting to gain traction.
2020’s
This roster is loaded with talented 2020’s. The biggest thing I will be watching is the left-handed pitchers of Grant Shankle, Jay Watson, and Mathew Magre. All had big summers, and have impressed me with a small sample size. It will be nice to really bare down on this group and make a solid evaluation.
The position players, are similar they have all impressed, but my sample size is small, so it will be a great opportunity to learn a lot about this group.
2021’s
Keegan Allen and Payton Allen, have played well on all levels across the country and solidified themselves as two of the names to know in the 2021 class. Middle infielder Reid Bowman stood out at the Futures Showcase last week end and earned an invite to the games. Bowman has advanced defensive actions, and above average athleticism. It should be fun to see this group compete against the best in the state.
