Fall Prospect League: Week 2 Recap

Sunday September 25th, the Fall Prospect League entered week 2, with teams competing at Arkansas Tech, and Southern Arkansas.
Arkansas Tech
Little Rock Rockets 12 vs PBR Select 4
The Little Rock Rockets defeated PBR Select 12-4 behind a dominant pitching performance and timely hitting, taking advantage of mistakes made by PBR Select.
The Rockets received a lights-out start from 2019 RHP J Matt Rogers. Rogers pitched 4 innings striking out 7 with 3 walks and an infield single. He was relieved by 2019 LHP Lawson Tiffee who pitched 2 innings with 1 strike out. Tiffee struggled to find command in the 7th, walking 3 before being relieved by Josh Dawson who minimized the inning to close the door on a 12-4 victory.
Offensively for the Rockets they picked up big production from 2018 OF Blake Burney as he recorded 2 hits on the day with 3 RBis while scoring 2 runs himself. 2017 C Luke Wewers also recorded 2 knocks the day with 2 RBIs.
Key contributors for PBR Select were, 2020 MIF Cole Dawson who went 1 for 2, and 2018 CIF Alex Langley who doubled during the 4 run 7th.
On the mound 2018 RHP/MIF Seth Morgan pitched 3 innings with 2 strike outs, allowing 1 unearned run and no hits.
PBR Select 7 vs Arkansas Prospect 2020 5
PBR Select defeated Arkansas Prospects 2020 7-5 with a big 6th inning, taking advantage of miscues by the young group from the Prospects.
Select jumped out to an early 1-0 in the 3rd when 2018 CIF William Brown doubled and scored on 2018 CIF Alex Langley’s double.
2020’s answer in the 4th when 2020 CIF/RHP Cayden Wallace scored on a miscue with 2 outs. Wallace reached on a double.
They took the lead in the 5th, 2019 Andrew Johnson lead the inning off with a single, followed by a single by 2020 Walker Williams, 2020 MIF Austin Scritchfield sacrificed both over, and they scored on a misplayed fly ball hit by 2020 MIF Braden Sites 2020 OF Dalton Pugh singled in sites and later scored, to finish off the scoring at 5-1.
PBR Select answered in the 6th with 6 runs of their own taking advantage of 3 walks and an error. 2019 OF Timmy Stewart had the big hit of the inning driving in 3 runs with a single.
2018 RHP Alex Langley stood out on the mound pitching 3 shutout innings with 5 strike outs. He kept hitters off balance locating his fastball and curveball in all counts.
Prospect 2020 8 vs Little Rock Rockets 1
Prospects 2020 bounced back in game 3 with 8-1. They picked up a dominant pitching performances from three promising young players, to lead the way.
2020 RHP Tyler Cacciotti pitched 3 perfect innings recording 5 strike outs. 2020 RHP/CIF Cayden Wallace pitched 2 innings recording 2 strike outs and allowing 1 hit. 2019 RHP/CIF Andrew Johnson pitched the final two innings allowing an unearned run.
Cacciotti located three pitches for a strike including an advanced breaking ball to keep hitters off balance. Wallace pounded the strike zone efficiently with his fastball throwing just two off speed pitches in his two innings of work. Johnson pitched effectively with a lead locating his fastball in the bottom half of the strike zone inducing 5 groundball outs.
Offensively the 2020’s saw 8 different players record a hit during the game. 2020 C Will Harness and 2020 RHP/CIF Tyler Cacciatori both recorded two hits.
Big blows were dealt out by 2020 CIF/RHP Cayden Wallace who had a 2 RBI double which scored 2020 OF Houston King and 2020 Dalton Pugh, Pugh reached on a RBI single that pushed home 2020 Will Harness who lead the inning off with a single. That ended up being a 4 run 4th inning.
They finished off the scoring 4 in the 7th on 5 hits.
Southern Arkansas
Extra Innings Sticks 9 vs Arkansas Prospects Hensley 8
The Extra Innings Sticks defeated 9-8 behind a monster day from 2017 INF/RHP Matt Goodheart. Goodheart went 3 for 3 with a double 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs. He also picked up a save pitching the 7th striking out 1.
The Sticks scored 2 in the 1st when 2017 OF Bryson Haskins singled and scored on 2017 INF/RHP Matt Goodheart’s double. Goodheart worked his way around and scored.
The Prospects answered in the 3rd tying the game 2-2 taking advantage of 2 errors a walk and a hit batter.
The Sticks answered regained the lead to 4-2 when Haskins and Goodheart came back around, Haskins with a single drove in by Goodheart and Goodheart scoring with his base running prowess.
In the 4th 2018 JT Nicholson doubled to score and 2018 C Deshawn Cordova drove in Nicholson, the other two runs scored reached on errors. At this point the score was 6-4
The Sticks answered with 5 in the 5th with 6 hits including doubles by 2017 OF Jay French and 2017 INF/RHP Matt Goodheart.
The Prospects threaten in the 7th when 2018 C Dezmond Cordova scored on 2018 MIF Garrett McCullum double. Cordova reached on a single.
2018 INF/RHP Braydon Todd had a big day with two doubles.
Extra Innings Sticks 7 vs Arkansas Prospects Hensley 4
Extra Innings Sticks defeated 7-4 to complete the sweep of the double header.
The Prospects scored in the top of the 1st with a run 2018 MIF Steven Stewart scored when 2018 C Dezmond Cordova drove him with a single.
The Sticks continued the momentum gained from game 1 by scoring 4 runs in the first inning on 5 hits. 2018 MIF Matt Aiken drove in 2019 INF/RHP Matt Goodheart who hit an RBI triple. Aiken scored on a 2017 OF Jay French double.
The Sticks expanded their lead when Goodheart hit a sac fly to score 2017 RHP/OF Kaden Tollett in the top of the second. 2018 INF Matt Aiken scored after reaching on an HBP in the top of the 3rd to push the lead to 5-1.
2018 Hudson Hurt singled, 2019 John Henry Maloch single, followed by a triple by 2018 OF Gabe Helsley triple with 2 RBIs, and later scored on 2018 MIF Steven Stewart RBI Single
The Sticks answered with 2 runs of their own to expand their lead to 7-4.
Pitching dominated the final two innings as neither team threatened.
