Committed: Q&A with Reid Maddox from Harding Academy

I had the opportunity to talk with 2016 Reid Maddox a right-handed pitcher, outfielder from Harding Academy about his recruitment and commitment to the University of the Ozarks.

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose the University of the Ozarks?

Maddox: I chose the University of the Ozarks because it is close to home is a beautiful campus. The university has a friendly, close knit atmosphere. I feel that I can get a quality, Christian education, play baseball and compete for a starting position as a freshman.

PBR: Where did they first see you compete?

Maddox: One of the assistant coaches watched me at one of my high school games last year.

PBR: When did you take your first official or unofficial to the University of the Ozarks?

Maddox: August 12, 2015

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Maddox: I think they want me to come in and compete and potentially be a starting pitcher early in my college career.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Maddox: Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.

PBR: Who did you play for this summer? Talk about your experience playing for them?

Maddox: I played for the Arkansas Express. I’ve played for them for the past 3 years. I felt like it was a good experience. I got a lot of exposure to different colleges by playing on different campuses.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Maddox: My high school coach, Shane Fullerton. He has been coaching me on and off since I was 6 years old and he has instilled a strong work ethic and a desire to compete at a high level throughout my baseball career.

PBR: What were your stats for your High School last spring?

Maddox: Started 29 of 30 games. 8-0 overall record, 2.40 ERA, 45 IP, 29 Ks; .292 BA. Highlights: 1) Hit first career home run vs conference rival Bald Knob 2) Pitched complete game in regional championship game 72 pitches, 70% strikes. Had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Won 3-1 over class 3A semifinalist Benton-Harmony Grove.
