By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

A look at 5 unsigned seniors who are still looking for a place to play and have performed well throughout the summer

Dylan Hays, RHP, 2016, Little Rock Christian Academy
Hays is a 6-foot-4 280-pound right-hander with a large frame and physical build. He pitches from a ¾ arm slot with a quick arm. He commands the strike zone with a fastball of 83-86 mph. He throws a slider at 71-74 with east/west action. He repeats his mechanics allowing him to throw strikes. At times he uses rushed rhythm causing his arm to drag behind. Overall a good physical athlete with arm strength and a feel to pitch. If he can clean up some timing issue he will throw harder. A dual sport athlete garnering attention on the football field but may have more upside playing baseball, only time will tell.

Dakatoh Stafford, C, 2016, Central HS
Stafford is a 6-foot-1 180-pound catcher with a medium frame and an athletic build. He possess a strong arm accurate arm throwing a 1.94-2.03 pop times during our pro-style work out He maintains an athletic stance and receives with soft hands. Offensively he shows the ability to hit the ball to all field with a short compact line drive swing. Stafford carries himself well and exudes confidence, he seems to bring energy to his teams. Overall Stafford is a solid catcher that is a good catch and throw guy, with gaining strength he will be a solid collegiate catcher.

Collin Cahill, RHP, 2016 Conway HS
Cahill is a 6-foot-3 180-pound left-hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He struck out the side in all three innings of work, mixing he 82-85 mph fastball and a 1/7 curveball with late break and depth. Cahill works from an H ¾ arm slot with fast arm. His lack of command at times, comes from lack of repeating the arm circle, other than that his mechanics are sound with repeatable balance and rhythm. Overall Cahill is a physical Lefthander with project ability through the roof, I belief he is still playing catch up from a 7 month rehabilitation of his knee after a knee surgery. Once he is back to full health and in rhythm he may be one of the top arms in this class

Michael King RHP 2016 Har-ber HS
King is a 6-foot-2 right hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He worked from an H ¾ arm slot with a quick arm with a slight wrap. He commanded his fastball 83-86 with some run. He  complimented the fastball with a sharp slider 72-74 mph. King’s mechanics are repeatable with balance and throughout his delivery. Overall with he is a large athlete with repeatable mechanics as he continues to develop he is going to be a pitcher to follow in this 2016 class.

Luke Van Dover, MIF, 2016 Little Rock Christian Academy
Van Dover is a 5-foot-9 155-pound middle infielder with a medium frame and an athletic build. He stands out with his play at short stop. He has good first step quickness and plays through the ball with fluid foot work. He has solid infield actions receiving the ball with soft hands. He uses a quick exchange and accurate arm. He threw the ball 75 mph across the infield at the Top Prospects Games. Offensively he has a short compact swing that allows him to spray the ball to all fields. He produces exit velocity up to 82 mph. Overall Van Dover is one of the best defensive players in the class, as he add strength his offensive game shouldn’t improve as well.
