Monday night wrapped up the three zone tournaments, I was in Texarkana to see the yearly meeting between the Bryant Blacksox and Texarkana Razorbacks. Both teams have been a dominate force in this zone and in the state over the past 10 years with both teams winning multiple state titles. Monday night was all Blacksox, winning 17-1.
They defeated the Razorbacks with a strong pitching performance by 2016 LHP Evan Lee and an offensive onslaught that saw 7 of the 9 Blacksox record a hit.
Lee pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing 1 run, his success came from his ability to throw three pitches for a strike. He located his fastball 84-87 mph up 90 mph on both sides of the plate. He complimented his fastball with a 1/7 curveball with late sharp break and a change up with arm side run thrown with fastball arm speed.
Offensively the Blacksox executed early bunting runners over, hitting behind runners for RBI’s. As they chewed up the Razorback bullpen they had big innings scoring 6 in the 5th and 5 in the 6th.
Bryant and Texarkana will both advance to next week’s State Tournament.
