As we look forward to rereleasing the 2017 rankings on Monday we are going to take an in depth look at the top 25 players in the class in depth. We will start at No. 25 and work our way down to No. 1 Sunday evening before releasing the full list the next day.
No. 25 Drew Mullins, RHP, Greene County Tech HS.
Mullins is a 6-foot-3 175-pound with a large frame and a thin build. He works from an H ¾ arm slot with a loose arm. He attacks the strike zone with a fastball of 81-84 mph with slight sink. He competes in the strike zone with an 11/5 curveball with gradual break thrown at 68-71 mph. He commands a change up for strikes. He has repeatable mechanics and rhythm. He has a tall and fall balance point and his arm drags behind at times. As he fills out and cleans up some timing issues he projects to throw harder. Overall Mullins is a projectable arm with a feel to pitch.
No. 24 Cameron Coleman, OF, Bryant HS
Coleman is a 5-foot-9 195-pound outfielder with a medium frame and a physical build. He is a premium athlete that runs a 6.7 in the 60. Defensively he works through the ball, with an elongated exchange and a strong arm. Offensively he is a raw with fast bat speed and with an uphill bat path. His physical strength and bat speed projects him to hit the ball for power. I would like him to stay in hips longer but overall does a sound job on his lower half. Overall a player with all of the tools you look for, as he climbs the depth chart at a very competitive high school I expect him to only get better.
No. 23 Mcall Dail, OF, Conway HS
Dail is a 5-foot-9 170-pound outfielder with a medium frame and an athletic build. He is an advanced offensive player that finds barrel on a consistent basis driving the ball to all fields. He has a short compact swing that stays in the hitting zone for a long period of time. He does a good job staying balanced through extension. Defensively he does a good job making reads on balls in the air. He has a quick exchange with an accurate arm. Athletically he is sound running a 6.98 in the 60. Overall Dail is an advanced offensive player as he matures physically he is going to be a sound collegiate player.
No. 22 Jackson Sloan, RHP, Fayetteville HS
Sloan is a 6-foot-2 165 right-hander with a medium-frame and an athletic build. He has a loose arm working from a ¾ arm slot. He repeats his mechanics and rhythm allowing him to command the strike zone on a consistent basis. His fastball was 82-84 mph. He threw his curveball with near fast ball at 67-70 mph with gradual break. The change-up is a more advanced pitch thrown a 73-75 mph with arm-side run. Overall Sloan has an arm that projects harder and a feel to pitch for a player his age. He is a player to watch over the next year as he should receive more mound time in 2016.
No.21 2017 C/OF Mckinley Williams, Sheridan HS
Williams is a 6-foot-2 175-pound C/OF with a large frame and a physical build. One of the more advanced players as far as physical strength. He shows off his strength at the plate, as he has flashed the ability to drive the ball out of the yard this summer. He starts from a slightly open stance, works online through the baseball with a slight uphill bat path. He produces exit velocities up to 89 mph. Defensively he is competitive in a corner outfield role or behind the plate. He throws 2.0-2.17 pop times consistently. He has a strong arm from the outfield, I believe he cleaned up his exchange his pop times would improve. Athletically he runs a 7.18 in the 60. Overall Williams is a physically strong player with an advanced offensive skill set. He needs to find a consistent home defensively but that usually works itself out.
