PBRT Alabama Select: Day 4 Scout Blog
June 14, 2021
The PBRT Alabama Select wrapped up yesterday in Albertville, AL at the beautiful & brand-new Sand Mountain Sports Complex. It was a great weekend of baseball with plenty of talented teams & players battling it out for a championship on Sunday. Our scouts were on hand for the games played, and there were plenty of standout performances throughout the day, both at the plate and on the mound. Teams and players were well-represented throughout the southeast part of the country, making for a perfect day of baseball.
Let's take a look back at some of the top performers from the final day of the PBRT Alabama Select..
Drew McCormick, 3B, Oxford (AL), 2023
6-3, 170-pound frame, long & lean with room for added strength. Was a big run-producer for Top Gun 16U this weekend, as he blasted two home runs, one being a walk-off grand slam, in their quarterfinal victory. Flicks the barrel through the zone, feel to hit to all fields as a right-handed hitter in the middle of the lineup. Played clean defense all weekend at the hot corner, and could move across the infield to 1st base in the future based on the size and potential.
After two HR’s last night, one being a walk-off GS, ‘23 3B Drew McCormick (@__DMcCormick5__; @OldGoldBB) is back on the barrel to start Day 4️⃣.

Works the count full, then deposits one down the RF line for a triple for @TopGun_Baseball. Lean 6-3, 170.#ALSelect | @PBRTournaments pic.twitter.com/RzRP7quIZS
6-2, 160-pound body, athletic and wiry frame with some whip to the arm. Clean delivery with not much effort, worked up to 81 mph with the fastball coming out of a ¾ slot. Featured a slower breaking ball that found some swing and miss during the outing. Lost command at times during the outing, but locked back in and was able to work into the 6th. Struck out nine hitters in the process.
‘24 RHP Talon Reddick (@JacketsBSBL) pitches three straight scoreless frames for West Tennessee Express in their semifinal matchup.

Locating the fastball to the glove side effectively at 81 mph, & using slower off speed offerings for chase.#ALSelect | @PBRTournaments pic.twitter.com/AlWbjHQvgy
5-9, 165-pounds, has added some noticeable strength since the last look last summer at a scout day. Right-handed hitter, leads off for a talented Bulls Baseball 15U squad, sets the table for the offense. Hits from an upright stance with some balance, flat path through the zone, hits for line drives and was solid defensively playing both 3rd base and catcher.
‘24 3B/C Luke Songy (@LSongy_99; St. John Paul II) sends one back up the middle hitting out of the leadoff spot for @BullsBaseball1 for a single in the 4th.#ALSelect | @PBRTournaments pic.twitter.com/52TQjIrz6m

5-11, 165-pound frame, plenty of athleticism, moves well laterally defensively and used his skill set well all weekend. Although he may not have had many base hits, the right-handed hitter middle infielder used a selective approach to reach base. Had five walks in the tournament, and finally got a pitch to handle in the video below, lining it down the LF line for a single.
‘23 SS Carter Sheehan (@CarterSheehan15; @BaseballCalera) hasn’t seen much to hit throughout the weekend, but gets a FB here and pulls it down the LF line for a single.

Max Duckwiler, C/3B, Friendship Christian (TN), 2022
6-0, 170-pounds. Aggressive early on in his at-bats, attacked the first pitch. Lead off the bottom of the third inning with a first-pitch fastball and shot it back where it came from for a single and later came around to score for Showcase Baseball 17U - Vaughn. Duckwiler contributed with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate and helped lead Showcase Baseball to the championship win.
‘22 C/3B Max Duckwiler (@MaxDuckwiler; Friendship Christian HS, TN) leads off the B3 frame and attacks the first pitch he sees. Shoots it back up the middle for a single, later comes around to score for @SBT17uVaughn. #ALSelect | @PBRTournaments pic.twitter.com/t1jlKgh7La

With a lot of upside to the 6-4, 190-pound frame, the long and lean right-handed pitcher may have not had his best stuff on Sunday, but displayed a solid three-pitch repertoire when in the zone for Knights South Baseball 17U - Brewer. Attacked hitters with his fastball at 84-86, 87 mph and also displayed the ability to throw two off speed offerings, the breaking ball played as the out-pitch at 70-72 mph along with the changeup that had some fade at 73-74 mph. Has previously been up to 91 mph in December of '20.
‘22 RHP Parker Webb (@parkerwebb_10; @LincolnCoBaseb1) has a lot of upside to his 6-4, 190-pound frame. May not have had his best stuff today but showed a solid three-pitch repertoire when in the zone for @KnightssouthAL 17U - Brewer.
