June 19 Top Prospect Games: Quick Hits

Over 50 players attended the Top Prospect Games at beautiful Troy University on Wednesday, June 19 and the talent on hand was top shelf. The players went through a pro style workout  in the morning which was followed by two games. Over the next week we will roll out a ton of information from the event. Today we will look at just a few of the standouts from the event. There were many more that impressed than just those listed here and we will touch on each player in the coming week.

Edward Berry (2020, RHP, Mountain Brook) RHP that was impressive in his two innings of work on the mound. The fastball was up to 85 mph and there was some nice arm side action on the pitch. The arm worked easy and the pitch seemed to have late life and get in on hitters.

Harrison Stout (2020, SS/OF, Tuscaloosa County) Athletic infielder that can easily play the OF as well. Showed plenty of arm strength and turned in a sub 7.0 60 yard dash. Was very impressive offensively during game play having multiple AB’s with hard contact and showed the speed with a stolen base.

Austin Embrey (2020, C/3B, Russell County) When you see pop times as low as his people tend to question it but this is three events that Embrey has shown high 1.7’s to the 2B bag. Truly an elite catch and throw guy behind the plate. The bat shows some pop as well but make no mistake, he can get it done behind the plate.

Hunter Sute (2021, C/OF, American Christian) Another impressive catcher at the event that also shows an advanced offensive approach with nice barrel control and juice to all fields. Was high 1.8’s- low 1.9’s to the bag during catching drills. Athletic enough to play the OF as well.

Mailon Reese (2020, OF/RHP, Lee Scott) This guy has a lot of tools on the field. The arm strength is there as he was 92 mph from the OF and 88 mph off of the mound. The speed plays as well as he ran a 6.81 60 yard dash and there is plenty of juice in the barrel. Had a nice swing for a 2B to RCF in game play.

Steven Cash (2022, LHP/OF, Bibb County) Young LHP that only pitched at the event but was very clean for his two innings. Has advanced mechanics and feel on the mound and just paints both corners of the plate. Upper 70’s FB that shows big time ASR. The breaking ball is a late bender with depth that he can spin at anytime. Could be a big time arm in the ‘22 class.

Zac Rice (2020, OF/SS, Russell County) Wow!!!! Speaking of tools, not sure anybody else in the state has a better set of tools than this guy. Ran a blazing 6.53 60 yard dash, was 95 mph from the OF (twice) and can cover a ton of ground in the OF. One AB in the game saw him pull a HR just foul and on the next pitch he singles to the RC gap. One of two hits on the day for him. 

Richard Brinson (2020, OF/LHP, UMS Wright) Another burner that ran a 6.57 and the rest of his game was just as impressive. The arm works as he was 89 mph from the OF and the approach at the plate is legit from the left side. Loud contact in the middle of the field during BP and a nice 2B to the gap in right where he had to show off the speed in the game.

Elliott Bray (2022, RHP/3B, Hartselle) This ‘22 grad had a day. Had a loud at bat with a 2B down the LF line in game play and showed plenty of arm strength (87 mph across the diamond) during IF drills. On the mound during the game, he was legit with a FB up to 85 MPH and a hammer for a breaking ball. The change up showed big time deception to hitters. Love the makeup on the mound. Going to be a big time arm in the '22 class. 

Cannon Daversa (2020, C/RHP, Madison County) Physical player that does a nice job using his core strength in all areas. The BP round was impressive with some nice pop to the pull side and he was high 1.9’s- low 2.0’s on the pop to 2B. On the mound he is a true power arn that just pounded the zone with a FB up to 86 mph. Like this ‘20 grad a lot.

Braden Hughes (2020, 3B/RHP, Springville) The reigning 5A Hitter of the Year and member of the Super All State team did nothing but help his stock. A strong kid, he showed very well at 3B with nice glovework and advanced feet. The arm strength is no issue and the bat really plays. His BP was consistent missiles to the RCF gap with backspin. On the mound he is just a competitor than can locate any pitch at anytime and just challenges the hitters. One of our PBR scouts put on his scout sheet from yesterday, “Real Deal” and that is the truth

Cade Easterbrook (2021, SS/3B, Saraland) Rangy shortstop that showed big time glove actions and moved extremely well in the field. No question on arm strength and the speed plays as well (7.04 60 yard dash). Nice left handed swing with some strength in the hands. Showed a middle approach during BP and had a loud 2B down the LF line in the game.
