OUTLOOK:
The Red Devils of Lawrence County High School will be competing against Hamilton, Russellville and West Point in 5A Area 14 in 2019 and they enter the season with some optimism. Coach Ryan Bowerman welcomes back the majority of innings pitched in 2018 but knows he still has a bit of an experienced squad this season. The Red Devils welcome back 4 positional starters and 3 pitchers from their 2018 team. 2019 OF Brayden Proctor returns and should be a catalyst for the offense this season after hitting .345 last season. Proctor is also a legit defender in the outfield. Junior Ty Hutto (RHP/SS/C) also returns after a successful sophomore season where he hit .348 on the season and was 4-1 on the mound with an ERA of 1.64. Hutto has nice athleticism and is also the QB on the football team and PG in basketball. 2021 RHP Cole Turner returns to the mound following a phenomenal freshman season in 2018 where he was 5-3 with a 1.93 ERA. Included in those decisions were a couple of tough luck losses to quality teams. Senior Hunter White also returns as a starter from the 2018 season and is a very versatile player that can help the Red Devils on the mound, behind the plate and at 3B. He will also be counted on to provide a spark for the offense. 2020 Jacob Shelton (RHP/1B/C) is another versatile player that will contribute in a variety of ways and will be looked on to be a run producer with his sweet swing from the left side. Tre Young is a 2021 1B that shows athleticism around the 1B bag and has some juice in the barrel from the left side. A few other sophomores, Micah Owens, Kaden Edwards and Garrett Lee will all be looked on to contribute on the mound. Owens will also see time in the outfield while Edwards will also see time behind the plate and on the infield. Lee, a 3 sport athlete, will be looked on to fill one of the outfield spots as well. Look for Lawrence County to be right in the middle of the area race, fighting for a state playoff berth.
