OUTLOOK:
5A Area 16 should be an interesting race to watch in 2019 as Madison County, Ardmore, Madison Academy and East Limestone are set to do battle this year. The Tigers of Madison County enter this season knowing they will need to rely on their arms as they look to secure a state playoff appearance. Six starters in the field from last year’s team return as well as three pitchers that logged innings in 2018. Hunter Vandiver, a senior C, will return to his duties behind the plate and should be a formidable bat in the lineup. 2019 RHP Jackson Pugh returns to the bump this year and will look to be a front line guy for the Tigers. 2020 SS/RHP Austin Mills returns as well and is a definite two way guy as he doubles as a run producing SS and has big time stuff on the mound. Mills is currently ranked the #51 player in the state in the 2020 class. Another junior, 1B/RHP Cannon Daversa, also returns and will be counted on in a two way role as well. Daversa has a live arm and some pop in the bat. Coach Jason Scott will also look to some underclassmen to contribute this season as well. Two sophomores to keep an eye on are LHP Connor Edwards and IF Brayden Parton. Edwards showed a fastball with a ton of arm side run at the recent Preseason All State event. 2022 Ramiro Towers figures into the plans on the infield while fellow freshman Will Johnson (RHP) will be looked on to provide depth on the mound. The Tigers are hoping their deep pitching staff will lead to an area championship in 2019.
