Alabama Fall Invite: Quick Hits

Hoover, AL - The Alabama Fall Invite was held at Hoover High School on Sunday, September 27 as each player present went through a pro-style workout in the morning and participated in one of the two games that followed. As is the norm, the talent on hand was very impressive as several players caught the eyes of our scouts that were present at the event. Over the rest of this week, we will continue to roll out content from the event, including an individual scouting report on each player present. Today, let's take a look at 13 players that really stood out. There were other impressive players at the event and you can read about them as the week progresses.  

Quick Hits

Luke Harris (2021, OF/3B, John Carroll Catholic) Harris showed a solid line drive approach to all fields while collecting two hits in gameplay. He also turned in a 6.74 60 yard dash. Showed very athletic actions on the day. 

Evan Pope (2022, OF/RHP, Auburn) Pope continues to impress and shows present strength at the plate. The ball just sounds different coming of his barrel. Showed an exit velocity of 96 mph (collected a hit in gameplay and had another loud AB) while also throwing 92 mph from the outfield.

Griff Minor (2021, OF/LHP, Helena) Solidly built hard-nosed player that plays the game with a throwback mentality. Minor showed an exit velocity of 95 mph off the barrel and was the leading hitter in gameplay as he was 3-3, including a double.

Tim Gooden (2021, OF/RHP, Helena) Very athletic, versatile player that had an all around solid day at the event. Started the day by running a 6.69 60 yard dash. Followed that up with an exit velocity of 90 mph and jumped on the mound and showed a fastball up to 85 mph and consistently attacked the bottom half of the zone. The changeup is also a plus pitch and the breaking ball shows sharp, slider-type action. Also collected two hits during gameplay. A lot to like in this uncommitted 2021 grad.  

Marcus Locklear (2022, OF/RHP, Hoover) The 2022 grad was very impressive on the mound, showing a long, loose arm with tons of potential. The fastball shows late ride through zone with some arm side action at 84-86 mph, touching 87 mph several times. The breaking ball showed tight spin with late depth. Very intriguing follow.

Christopher Johnston (2023, 3B/RHP, Vestavia Hills) Physically advanced 2023 grad that did a lot of very good things at the event. The 6'1 180 pounder ran a 6.76 60 yard dash while also turning in a 93 mph exit velocity. His BP was very impressive as he showed juice off the barrel to the pull side. Had a loud out on a line out to the 2nd baseman during the game. A lot to like in this '23 grad.

Tyler Morrison (2022, OF/RHP, Jasper) The 2020 Team Alabama Future Games participant shows several plus skills as he turned in a 6.90 60 yard dash to start the day. No doubt he has plenty of arm strength as he was 95 mph from the outfield on multiple throws and then jumped on the mound and showed a fastball 84-87 mph from a mid 3/4 arm slot.

Luke Hyche (2022, RHP/3B, Briarwood Christian) Hyche turned in a solid inning on the mound as he continually pounded the zone and attacked hitters. The breaking ball shows big action at 69-71 mph to compliment his fastball that mainly sat 84-85 mph. There is some projection on the mound with this 2022 grad. 

Christian Sutphin (2022, OF/RHP, Grissom) Another member of Team Alabama from the 2020 Future Games that just continues to smash baseballs. He has power to all fields and was up to 92 mph exit velocity. Sutphin was 2-2 in gameplay and showed arm strength from the outfield, throwing 89 mph. A top uncommitted bat in the 2022 class. 

Ben Pearman (2023, RHP/3B, Thompson) Young, two-way talent that has some strength in his physical frame. The 6-foot-2, 200 pounder showed an exit velocity of 94 mph off the bat and took a very impressive round of BP while hammering balls from gap to gap. The 2023 grad was impressive on the mound as his fastball was up to 86 mph from a high 3/4 slot. The breaking ball showed 12/6 form with late depth. Heavy arm side run on the fastball.

Aidan Bee (2023, 1B/RHP, Chilton County) Our first time to see Bee at an event and he did not disappoint. Physical frame at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds that showed solid two-way potential. Really creates backspin off the barrel and is a power threat to all fields, showing 96 mph off the barrel. Clean arm action on the mound from a mid 3/4 slot and showed the ability to throw all three pitches at any time. The fastball was up to 82 mph. Another impressive 2023 grad at the event.

Jax Yoxtheimer (2023, OF/RHP, Central Phenix City) Member of the 2019 Team Alabama Junior Futures team that has progressed well over the last year. Very quiet approach at the plate and does a nice job of spraying balls all over the field from the left side. Very good athlete that runs well and shows some pop at the plate (91 mph exit velocity). Worked a very clean inning on the mound and has some projectability as an arm. The fastball shows some natural sink from a high 3/4 slot while flashing an above average breaking ball.

Patrick McGlon (2022, 3B/1B, Auburn) McGlon has some definite pop at the plate (98 mph exit velocity), as evidenced by his impressive round of BP he took. Showed a mostly pull side approach with slight tilt in the bat path. His last swing of the round was the most impressive as he hammered a no-doubter over the left field fence that traveled 382'8" according to Trackman metrics.
