OUTLOOK:

The Spanish Fort Toros have a rich tradition of a winning program in the state of Alabama. The 2020 squad looks to continue those winning ways in 6A Area 2 this year. Coach JD Pruitt knows he has a good deal of youth on the team with some inexperienced position players but likes the talent on this year’s squad. A talented senior that the Toros will be looking to get healthy is senior RHP/OF Jacob Davis. In 2019, Davis was 6-1 with a 1.60 ERA and 74 K’s in 48 IP. The senior suffered an injury during football season and is expected to be back in March. ‘20 MIF/C Evan Kirk (University of Montevallo commit) is a big time defender in the middle of the infield with exceptional range and handles the bat well. ‘20 RHP/UTIL Dalton Neuschwander threw 23 innings in 2019 mainly out of the bullpen and had a solid 2.10 ERA. This year he will be competing for a starting role on the mound and shows plus command with a solid four pitch mix. Senior OF Brady Wiggins returns to the outfield for the 2020 season after hitting .315 a year ago. He should be the center fielder this season as he possesses big time speed and is a very solid defender. Brody Wiggins, a senior RHP/C logged 32 ⅓ innings a year ago and was 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA. He will obviously be counted on as a pitcher but will also provide depth at the catching position. The Toros will be without a major arm this year as ‘21 LHP/1B Brady Garcia will miss the 2020 season after undergoing season ending surgery. The University of Alabama commit had an impressive 1.65 ERA with 37 K’s in 25 ⅓ innings a year ago. Two guys that will be looked on to try and help ease the loss of Garcia are ‘22 RHP/OF Carter Stanford and ‘22 RHP/1B Cam Keshock. Stanford tossed 17 ⅓ innings as a freshman in 2019 and features a mid to upper 80’s fastball. He will also provide depth in the outfield as well. Keshock was hindered as a freshman with a forearm strain early in the 2019 season that caused him to miss the majority of the year but make no mistake about it, he has a chance to be an elite arm. The Toros have their sights set on a successful 2020 campaign.
