Calgary Summer ID: Quick Hits

On Wednesday, June 26th the Prep Baseball Alberta staff hosted the Calgary Summer ID at Webber Athletic Park in Calgary, Alberta. It gave players the opportunity to collect updated metrics via our tech partners TrackMan and Blast Motion.
We broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis, Hitting Data Dive and Pitching Data Dive. Now, we conclude our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on five standouts from the event.

Tyson Dyck SS / RHP / Summit High School, AB / 2027The 2027 SS/RHP had one of the best overall days at the Calgary Summer ID. Standing at 6-foot-2, 155-pounds, Dyck possesses a projectable frame with plenty of room to add strength. With a short and quick arm on the mound, Dyck was able to command his fastball up to 86 mph that was paired with two breaking balls and a changeup with late depth. At the dish, Dyck has an inside out swing that allows him to drive the ball to all fields. The ability to create torque in his lower half indicates the potential for future power. From shortstop, Dyck is able to use his natural athleticism to provide range and smooth hands, pairing it with infield velocity of 85 mph. The Webber Academy products' projectability and athleticism make him a 2027 to keep an eye on going forward

Xavier Lampshire OF / 3B / Allendale Junior High, AB / 2027Rankings StateRank: 9 / POS: 2
Lampshire put up one of the more impressive rounds of BP at the event. The athletic switch hitter, who stands at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, showed present bat-to-ball on both sides of the dish. He consistently worked to his bask-side gap from both the right and left sides and his swing path allows him to elevate. Lampshire was up to 80 mph from the outfield with more room to add strength. He is one of the more intriguing 2027s in the province.

Sean Bavis RHP / OF / Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy, AB / 2025The Calgary Cubs product made a name for himself during the Calgary Summer ID. At 6-foot-6, 175-pounds there’s plenty of projection in Bavis’ frame. Out of a high-¾ slot, he creates a steep vertical approach angle on his fastball making it tough on hitters to elevate when located down in the zone. The fastball sat 81-83 mph with some arm-side-run on it as well. The splitter is just as effective, with just 1 inch of vertical break creating deception out of the same arm slot as his fastball. The slider is still a work in progress, but has the profile to be an effective offering in the near future.

George Hobbins RHP / Central Memorial, AB / 2025Rankings StateRank: 39 / POS: 16
Hobbins has been a standout all year in the Baseball Alberta Elite League (BAEL), leading the league in strikeouts by a wide margin. That success continued at the Calgary Summer ID. He worked up to 89 mph with the fastball, sitting 87-88 mph. He also has the ability to spin it north of 2500 rpm. The curveball, in which he can also spin at a high rate of 2550 rpm, profiles more like a gyro slider with it’s movement profile and velocity, 79-82 mph.It’s an effective pitch when located down in the nonetheless. Hobbins moves freely on the mound with a long and loose arm. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound RHP has been flying under the radar as of late, but that has since changed with his performance in the BAEL and during the Summer ID.

Austin Collins RHP / RHP / Foothills Composite, AB / 2024Rankings StateRank: 18 / POS: 6
The 2024/2025 RHP and 2023 Future Gamer was a standout at the Calgary Summer ID. There’s athleticism in his 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame, working out of a ¾ slot with a long arm. He works up in the zone with the fastball at 86-88 mph and pairs it well with his two off-speed pitches. The curveball has a 1/7 shape to it that can create chase below the zone. The changeup, arguably Collins’ best pitch, has late depth and added arm side run while still tunneling well off the fastball. Out of the same slot, it has a vertical movement difference of over 8 inches, and 9.6 inches of arm-side run. It too profiles as an effective swing & miss offering. As one of the top uncommitted arms available in Alberta, Collins will be one to keep an eye on.
