Black Gold 47s Scout Day: Quick Hits

Brady Turner
West Coast Director

On Wednesday, May 15th the Prep Baseball Alberta staff hosted the Black Gold 47s Scout Day at The Turf Training Centre in Leduc, Alberta. It gave players the opportunity to collect updated metrics via our tech partner TrackMan.

We broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis Article. Now, we move onto this Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on four standouts from the event.

Riley Wolbeck RHP / 2B / Leduc Composite, AB / 2028

Despite being one of the youngest players at the Black Gold 47s Scout Day, Wolbeck was a standout on the mound. The 2028 grad stands at 6-foot-1, 168-pounds and has plenty of room to add strength and mature physically. The delivery is low effort, while also utilizing a quick arm. The fastball got up to 78 mph, sitting mostly in the 74-76 mph range. He offers a sinker at 73 mph, as well as a splitter and a curveball. Wolbeck has been one of the more impressive 2028s we’ve seen so far, and will be one to follow in the years ahead.

Nash Beitz 3B / RHP / Calmar Secondary , AB / 2026

Beitz was a standout on both sides of the ball at the Scout Day. An athletic mover, standing at 6-foot-0, 170-pounds, he has a quick arm and ran his fastball up to 78 mph. With a low-¾ arm slot, he works mostly east to west as the curveball/slider duo both move more horizontally than vertically. The sinker also fits well in the repertoire, with 13 inches of horizontal break and just 3.5 inches of induced vertical break. At the dish, Beitz worked to his pull side showing the ability to elevate. The two-way Black Gold product will be a name to know this summer.

Kyle Molcak 3B / OF / Leduc Composite, AB / 2026

As one of the more physical 2026s we’ve seen, there’s plenty to like with Molcak. The two-way player stands at 6-foot-4, 220-pounds. Molcak has a quick arm and the fastball sits comfortably in the mid 70s. He also throws a cutter and sinker which complement his 4-seamer well. The slider works on a lateral plane, with over 8 inches of horizontal break. At the dish, the physicality was evident. He elevated to the big part of the field, working up to an exit velocity of 90 mph. As Molcak continues to develop, he will be someone to keep an eye on.
