T12 PICKS TO CLICK: Six arms that will make an impression at the Rogers Centre

With Tournament 12 approaching, we take a look at six arms that will have an opportunity next week to get their feet wet on a Major League mound as players from across the country gather for Roberto Alomar and the Toronto Blue Jays host Tournament 12 from September 17th-21st.

PBR will be on location for all 5 days, bringing you non-stop coverage of the Tournament along with player updates, statistics, video and more.

Below are 5 arms that are on the radar and seem to be ready to make that next jump in their development. Get the inside scoop below.

Brendan Wilkinson RHP / OF / Bishop Reding, ON / 2021

Report: Wilkinson is a sturdy righthander at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds and the two outings we’ve seen this summer it has been 84-86, touching 87 mph with heaviness on the heater and downer breaking ball in the 71-73 range. A little wrap at the back on the separation, Wilkinson will get swings and misses up in the zone and if he gets ahead, will be able to bury his curveball as well. There is room to become more athletic while adding strength and the upside with Wilkinson is something to be very aware of.

Evan Soules RHP / SS / Stayner Collegiate , ON / 2021

Report: Soules, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed arm has the ability to make a splash at T12 with a fastball/curveball mix that has lots of room to grow and project. The body is lean and athletic with easy room to add 15-20 pounds. No red flags and the arm works easy with minimal effort. The curveball can be slower in the 66-68 range as he tends to cast but will break one off in the low 70’s with bite and the action you want to see. Soules has been up to 88 with room to add more velo and sharpen the repertoire moving forward.

Tyler Coakley RHP / OF / Dr. Frank J Hayden, ON / 2021

Report: 2021 grad at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, a right-hander with a loose, easy arm swing that was 83-84, up to 86 mph this last month is someone to pay attention to next week at the Rogers Centre. The frame jumps out immediately, then on the hill he’s controlled, arm is easy and clean in the back, and works from ¾ slot with run on his fastball. Mixes in a slurve in the low 70’s and usually has fairly decent control, Coakley is an arm that has upside with his present stuff, actions and room for strength,  and the ability to attack the strike zone. All check marks in my boxes.

Jordan Spring RHP / OF / NA, ON / 2021

Report: Spring seems to keep getting stronger as the season moves on and the 2020 London Badger has impressed our staff whenever we’ve laid eyes on him this year. The arm is quick and works well as he’s been 85-86 with an overhand curveball that’s near 12/6 shape and has depth that can bottom out. It’s an athletic frame that moves well on the mound, the strength that awaits and ability to spin make him an interesting '21 right-hander to watch at Tournament 12.

Mathew Duffy 3B / RHP / Assumption, ON / 2020

Report: Duffy has done it on both sides this year, as he was hot early in the season with the bat and barreling pitches all over the diamond, and recently we saw him work at 87-89 for an inning of work with both changeup and curveball coming out his ¾ slot from the right side. The stuff and movements were very encouraging, overhead windup from the full, worked both sides of the plate and garnered swings and misses, overmatching hitters. Look for Duffy to carry that into T12 and head into the fall being an arm that college coaches need to be on.

Jack Mount RHP / OF / Vauxhall Academy Of Baseball, AB / 2021

Report: Mount is very interesting as the arm is quick and delivery is compact with a projectable frame that has wide shoulders and will carry more weight and strength. His fastball has been up to 88 with life out the hand and we’ve seen him snap off some tight breaking balls that have flashed promise. He looks the part and can see him stepping up at the Rogers Centre and be an arm that jumps out to those in attendance.
