2020 New Year Open - Unsigned Seniors
February 21, 2020
We would like to thank all who participated in PBR Ontario's 2020 New Year Open. This was a great opportunity for 2020-2023 prospects to be identified before season, create and update their profiles, as well see where they stack up with their peers. Many players impressed during their individual workouts at the showcase.
In the coming weeks, we will be adding and updating profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video.

2020 New Year Open - Unsigned Seniors
Four uncommitted seniors who were standouts from the New Year Open and are looking for schools and schools should be looking at them.
Cameron Lugtenburg OF / RHP / St. Stephens Catholic School, ON / 2020Rankings StateRank: 60 / POS: 14
Report: Lugtenburg, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound outfielder, was a standout at the New Year Open. He has noticeably added strength, and improved athletically, running a 7.25 60-yard dash, and registering a 92 mph exit velocity. He showed off the best arm of the day in the outfield, taking correct routes and generating throws up to 93 mph. At the plate, he displayed bat speed and a good bat path towards the baseball, barreling up the ball repeatedly. Lugtenburg would be a solid add for a school at the next level, and it shouldn't be long before his name is off the board.

Ayden Wood OF / LHP / Courtice, ON / 2020Rankings StateRank: 38 / POS: 9
Report: Wood, an Ontario Yankees two-way player, is another unsigned senior with the chance to provide impact for a school at the next level. It’s a compact delivery on the mound, where he effectively utilizes his body. He was 85-87 mph on the bump, mixing in a downer curveball with correct spin and depth. On the positional side, he was 89 mph from the outfield, while displaying the makings at the plate, with barrel feel and some sneaky pop. Wood is a guy school’s need to get on.

Noah Murciano C / 2B / Bill Crothers, ON / 2020Report: Murciano, a catcher for the Ontario Astros, impressed at the New Year Open. Behind the plate, he was up to 1.95 during catcher pops, while getting throws off up to 72 mph. The bat has continued to progress; he was up to 86 mph off the tee, he displayed some bat speed and looseness. There is plenty of room to continue to put on weight and fill out, and he would benefit greatly as a result. It was an impressive showing from the catcher, and he could contribute to a school at the next level.

Aidan Mendonza SS / 2B / Our lady of mount Carmel, ON / 2020Report: Mendonza, an infielder for the Ontario Terriers showed well during the New Year Open. It’s a 5-foot-9, 155-pound frame with some current strength and athleticism. The actions in the infield are solid, he displays range side-to-side and was up to 75 mph across. The bat works short to the baseball and is contact-oriented. There’s some feel in the box and potential to contribute offensively at the next level. He’s an interesting name to follow in the 2020 class.
