2019 Future Games Preview - Team Canada Pitching Rotation
Day 1
Mitch Bratt LHP / OF / Newmarket, ON / 2021Report: Bratt is the number one ranked prospect in the country, and should be sure to draw a strong presence for his Day 1 start. The 6-foot-1 left-hander has been a can’t miss prospect this summer as his velocity has ticked up with the fastball working 86-88 and touching 90 mph on a few occasions. The curveball has bite and near 12/6 shape while the changeup has improved. |
Micah Bucknam RHP / 3B / M.E.I, BC / 2021Report: Popping up on a handful of prospect and select teams is Micah Bucknam, a 5-foot-11 rising RHP in the country with a loose action that has showcased a lively fastball that works in the 84-86 range and has been up to 88 with a sharp curveball at 73-75 that is a swing-and-miss pitch working on same plane as his heater. Projects well and chance to be a power arm with his stock rising quickly. |
Turner Spoljaric RHP / National High School, ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 6 / POS: 2
Report: Spoljaric is a very projectable right-hander with long arms and wide shoulders, listed at 6-foot-1, 180-pounds with room to carry much more size and strength. The fastball has been up to 88 mph this summer while we’ve seen Spoljaric spin it with 10/5 shape in the 75-77 range. The arm is loose and free and expect the velo to continue to climb as Spoljaric matures and adds strength. |
Day 2
Anson McGorman RHP / SS / Ballenas, BC / 2021Report: McGorman is a long-levered 6-foot-2 170-pound right-hander representing British Columbia at the upcoming Futures Games. On the mound Anson has a ¾ arm slot with a fastball that works in the 85-87 range and has been running fastball with late life. Complimenting his FB is a sweeping CB 70-72 and a CH that could be an out-pitch with feel. Mechanically there is much more reach and stride to gain to stay on top of the ball to assist with higher velos and greater break. Anson’s delivery and arm slot projects a change to a SL to achieve higher success at next level. As a 2021 with plenty of room for physical development, Anson is a D1 talent or pro to watch coming out of BC soon. |
Caden Shapiro OF / LHP / Upper Canada College, ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 21 / POS: 5
Report: Shapiro will be working as a two-way player, and the upside on where he fits depends on who you ask. On the mound, Shapiro works from ¾ slot with clean actions in the back, allowing him to work out front and create angles on his fastball. Reports have had him up to 87 mph this July while the breaking ball works with tight spin and downward action in the low 70’s. A very intriguing 2021 arm with feel for his delivery and stuff that plays. Also high academics. |
Jack Mount RHP / OF / Vauxhall Academy Of Baseball , AB / 2021Rankings StateRank: 25 / POS: 12
Report: Mount is a live arm that works from a loose ¾ slot with natural run on his fastball that sits in the mid 80’s and can run it up to 88 at times. The curveball is more of a slider that when he gets out front, has tilt and late action in the low 70’s. Mount, an Ottawa native will be pitching out in Alberta this fall for Vauxhall Academy. |
Day 3
Louis Philippe Langevin RHP / 1B / Ecole secondaire de la Seigneurie, QC / 2021Report: Listed at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds, Langevin works with a compact and clean delivery, it’s controlled with minimal effort with loose actions out front as we’ve seen the fastball work in the 84-86 range and touch an 87-88. He can spin his curveball with 11/5 shape and good downward depth as it is the more polished pitch of the two secondary offerings. Really like the actions and ease with how Langevin works at, definite one to watch out for moving forward. |
Griffin Almond RHP / 1B / Georgian Bay Community, ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 16 / POS: 6
Report: Almond is an imposing presence on the mound, listed at 6-foot-6, 200-pounds, he has the ability to really get on top and work downhill with his fastball that has been in the 84-85 range and as high as 88 mph this summer. The curveball is more of a slow, gradual break with 11/5 shape and downhill action in the 68-70 mph range. There is still polish and room to grow for Almond on the mound, but there is a lot to like and for pitching coaches, a definite guy they would want to get their hands on and work with. |
