Indian Trail Wins Union Grove Sectional

UNION GROVE, WI- Four teams entered Mondays Union Grove Sectional with a chance to go to state. Indian Trail earned their trip to Appleton with wins over Bradford and Wilmot.

Indian Trail vs. Bradford

In the opening game of the sectional Indian Trail defeated Bradford by a score of 3-2.

Indian Trail got on the board first scoring three runs in the top of the third. Jared Hoerter reached on an error with one out, and then stole second. Gavin Lux was intentionally walked to bring up Kyle Antos with runners on first and second. Antos drove the first pitch to left field scoring Hoerter. The throw home was cut off by the pitcher, who tried to get Lux heading to third but instead threw the ball into left field. Lux was able to score and Antos made it to third on the error. Lane Ochs then came up and delivered a sacfly, making it 3-0 Indian Trail.

Bradford got on the board in the bottom of the third after two walks to start the inning, Vinnie Hubli and Kyle Sinclair delivery RBI singles to make it 3-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Indian Trail starter Jeremy Stouffer pitched out of a second and third one out situation. Stouffer induced an infiled popup and a fly out to end the Bradford threat. Ryan Hoerter came on in the bottom of the seventh to nail down the 3-2 win for Indian Trail.

Wilmot vs. Tremper

In game two of the day, Wilmot hung on for a 7-6 victory over Tremper to advance to the sectional final against Indian Trail.

With Tremper trailing 7-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Noah Jensen got the inning started with a home run to leftfield. After three straight singles and a walk, to make it 7-4 Wilmot went to the pen for lefty Nick Van Kampen. Jeff Stueck came thru with a sac fly to leftfield to make it 7-5. With men at first and second with one out Mitchell Buban struck out on a hit and run. Justin Lavey was able to come around to score on a throwing error by the catcher. With Wilmot clinging to a one run lead with two outs and a man on second, Van Kampen was able to get a groundout to seal the victory for Wilmot.

Wilmot was lead at the plate by designated hitter Eric Koeller, who went 2-4 with three RBI’s.

Wilmot vs. Indian Trail

The championship game of the union Grove sectional pitted Wilmot vs. Indian Trail. Indian Trail jumped all over Wilmot in an 8-1 victory sending the Hawks to the state finals in Appleton.

In the bottom of the first Jared Hoerter reach on a hit by pitch to start the inning, and came around to score on an RBI single from Gavin Lux.

Indian Trail Blew the game open in the bottom of the third sending nine men to the plate scoring six times. With a 4-0 lead Nick Elsen delivered a three run homer to left field to push the Hawks lead to 7-0.

Ryan Hoerter got the start for the Hawks working six innings allowing just one run on three hits to earn the win.
