Ontario 12 Days of Christmas: CPBL To Debut in 2016

Ontario is set to launch another elite amateur baseball league come April 2016, in the form of the Canadian Premier Baseball League of Ontario, otherwise knows as the CPBL. It will consist of the following six teams:

  • Fieldhouse Pirates
  • Great Lake Canadians
  • Ontario Blue Jays
  • Ontario Nationals
  • Toronto Mets
  • Team Ontario

Many believe that these are some of the strongest teams in the province, with notable appearances and victories at events and tournaments across North America.

The league will consist of 30 games, with playoffs and a championship in the makings. The CPBL will be home to some of the most highly touted prospects entering the inaugural season. Potential 2016 draft candidates such as Andy Yerzy, Jordan Balazovic, Brad Aldred, Austin Shields, Devlin Jovetic and Max Wright, just to name a few will suit up for their respective teams in the CPBL this spring and summer.

The top three 2017 prospects are all CPBL members with Adam Hall (Texas A&M), Cooper Davis (Vanderbilt) and Landon Leach headlining the crop of junior standouts.

Games will be held throughout Ontario with park locations taking place in Dorchester, Vaughn, Scarborough, Oshawa, Markham, Burlington, and the ever prestigious Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St.Mary’s.

We fully expect that no team will run away with first place in either of the 18u and 16u divisions. There is plenty of talent at all levels and there could easily be a 14u division after a year or two of the CPBL.

Notable draft picks that have come from CPBL organizations over the last few years are:

With the CPBL now included in the elite league mix, Ontario baseball talent is now at an all-time high. Fergie Jenkins League, Premier Baseball League of Ontario (PBLO) and the Elite League of Ontario (formerly known as the Midget Elite League) along with the OBA teams and now the CPBL all now play a large part in developing the baseball talent in Ontario.

I know I speak for the PBR Ontario staff when I say we are looking forward to covering the CPBL as they begin their first season as the newest league in Ontario.
