Leach, the top amateur prospect in the country worked three innings at the ProCase, showing off a repeatable delivery and working mainly with his fastball/slider combo. Came out the gates with a 94 mph heater, Leach struck out 8 of the 14 hitters he faced, overpowering guys with his fastball and a slider that worked between 82-85 mph with late tilt and biting action. Limited viewing of his changeup, he did throw one which was a swing and miss with late diving action at 80 mph. Missed barrels and kept the ball on the ground, did struggle in the third with his fastball command, he was able to get back on track and struck out his last batter with another 94 mph fastball on his last pitch of the day. Leach looks to be a high pick come June and potential to be the first Canadian off the board.
11/10/16
Physical right-hander at 6-foot-4, 205-pounds. Best fastball velocity in the country for high school players as fastball was up to 94 mph this summer and usually sits low 90’s. Delivery is fluid and repeatable, arm action is clean and works from ¾ slot while able to get on top and create angles. Slider has turned into solid putaway pitch with late action and bite at 79-83 mph. Changeup is limited and his third pitch, will flash feel, needs more reps but potential to be average pitch given his actions and athleticism. The Texas commit will be heavily watched entering this year’s MLB draft and will likely have a decision to make on whether or not he lands on the Longhorns campus.
02/11/16
Leach threw his third bullpen of the winter and was sitting 88-90 mph. He is a physical specimen now at 6-foot-4, 205-pounds, changed his body and is beginning to look like the player we thought he would be. The arm works with regular effort, ball jumps and is heavy, was working down with good plane and throwing strikes. Potential to be hardest thrower in the country.
03/25/15
Leach has had a strong off season and added strength and size to frame, now 6-foot-2, 170-pounds. Came out in February at the Bureau camp sitting 84-86 while topping out at 87 mph. Put himself on the map and is only going to get better. Feel for off speed still there. High follow for colleges in the 2017 class.
10/26/14
6-foot-1, 155-pound frame with athletic build, long legs and arms. From the outfield was 82 mph with good arm speed and carry, arm works. Open stance at plate with some strength and bat speed. Bat generates good finish through zone, some power to pull side. Exit velocity was 80 mph while Leach ran a 5.31 40-yard dash. On the mound, Leach stands out with his frame, arm speed and strength. Fastball was heavy with sink at 82 mph from high-¾. Threw both slider and curveball, slider was the better on this day. Short tilt when stays on top, had good velocity to it at 70-72. Changeup was effective, good action down in the zone, was plus pitch. Should be someone to watch out for in the future.
