Szymborski is a defensive-minded catcher who handles the mitt well. His actions while in gear and behind the dish are representative of an advanced high school catcher ready to handle college arms. He popped 2.00 at 76 mph this weekend at the ID. While the bat has run light in years past, the improvement in the box has become evident as he repeated quality contact to all fields with improved feel for the barrel.
Positional Profile: C
Body: 5-11, 185-pounds. Thick strong lower half.
Hit: LHH. Balanced toe tap from a crouched setup. Hands close to neck. Compact stroke while crowding the plate. More of a vertical plane with upper half posture tilt. Works short to long and stays through impact long. Hard contact to all fields. Clean when synced up.
Power: 94.1 max exit velocity, averaged 86.7 mph. 323’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 76 mph. Carry and accuracy from a quick release. Clean.
Defense: 2.00-2.06 pop times. High end defensive skill and reliability. One knee down receiving from below the pitch. Easy small moves with the mitt.
Run: 7.58 runner in the 60.
Szymborski’s calling card has long been his defensive abilities behind the plate, as a quality backstop with advanced all-around actions with the glove for someone his age. His left-handed bat did show flashes this weekend at the PBR at The Rock Fall Championships, including when he banged a left/left breaking ball deep into the right-center gap for a double on Saturday morning.
Szymborski really looks the part behind the plate. He is an advanced receiver, staying ultra-quiet with soft hands and the ability to present pitches in and around the zone with minimal wasted movement. The lean/athletic 5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed hitter had a low pop time of 2.00 and flashed strength in his spring and opposite field approach at times.
