Merritt is very tall with a frame that he has added strength to, but still plenty of projection to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action, some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are on line and level to target, strides out straight on line, lands open with hips already fired. Wasn't getting a ton of backside drive, some fall off to his finish. Fastball was 83-86, touching 88 once in the first inning. He held his velocity in the stretch just fine. His velocity did tail off quickly, working most of the game in the 80-83 range, touching some 84s when he needed them. In the sixth inning it had tailed off to 78-80. Fastball has some downward angle and late boring action, gets bad contact with it. Breaking ball was 68-72, more in the 71-72 range in the first, lower later in the game. Pitch had some armspeed and late hard 11/5 break. Plays off of his fastball well. Showed one change-up in the first inning that had good armspeed and run at 80. Merritt can pitch a bit and commands his fastball to both sides of the plate with feel to throw his breaking ball for a strike or to try and draw a swing.

Merritt is very tall and has a lanky frame with a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a longer, free arm action that is loose and very easy effort. Smooth delivery, shoulders slightly uphill and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 82-84, touched 85 once, pitch had downward angle and then some late boring action to the armside. Slider was 67-70 with late hard 10/4 break, pitch has potential to be a swing and miss offering. Merritt has plenty of projection left and should add velocity as he continues to develop, he will be one of the more interesting arms to check in on in.
5.19.17: Merritt has a tall lanky frame and throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot. Longer arm action that is free and loose, generates velocity with easy effort. Shoulders closed and uphill, lands closed with an athletic complete finish. Fastball was 79-83, touching 84 with late armside run that gets heavy at times. Change-up had good armspeed and fading action at 74-75. Curveball was thrown at two speeds, 67-69 and 62-63, 11/5 break that was sharper in the higher range. Command as a whole was inconsistent, but early in the outing showed the ability to be dominant when in the zone.
