Michalas is 5-7 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, strides on line, loads back, hips rotate completely with violence, has some balance during his swing, leans back into contact. Keeps hands inside ball, strong at contact point, slightly uphill path, line drive swing, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 84. In the infield, clean feet, rounds ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands. Plays through ball to a clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, free arm action, position velocity was 81. Home to first was 4.20. On the mound, he throws from a three-quarters arm slot with long free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and slightly closed, lands closed with athletic finish. Fastball was 77-80 with late cut to it, almost cutter action. Curveball was 67-70 with sharp 11/5 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 71-74 with good armspeed and hard late fade. Good 3 pitch mix and can throw all for strikes.
11/04/18
Fall Invite
Simple direct stride to a slightly closed landing. Finishes hips well, but could benefit from getting off the backside a little more allowing the barrel to stay through the hitting zone longer. Defensively works hard to gain ground on the ball, while keeping the feet moving until catch. Has arm strength for his size, but will probably translate to 2B down the line. On the mound Michael displayed a slower controlled delivery with some arm whip late. Could take some strain off of the arm when finishing if he can get the lower half to finish. Breaking ball plays more like a slider with good action and speed that should tunnel well with the fastball.
