Ellerts transferred to Florida SouthWestern this fall from Patrick & Henry CC (Va.) after leading the Patriots to the NJCAA DII World Series and garnering First Team All-American honors (10-2, 2,60 ERA, 141 K in 86 2/3 IP) as a freshman in 2021. He posted double-digit strikeouts in seven different starts, highlighted by a 14-punchout performance over eight one-hit frames against Pasco-Hernando in the postseason's opening round. Now a 6-foot-5, 225-pound sophomore, the Gators recruit boasts a lively fastball into the mid-90s, touching 97. He will also show three impactful secondary pitches in a sharp downer curveball, a slider and a split-changeup.

Ellerts has an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a loose quick arm and easier effort. Fastball had late run to it and sat 87-88 in the first two innings, touching 90 once. Held his velocity well, sitting 85-88 and touching 89 in the fifth inning. Gave up a bit of velocity in a knee-knock slide step, working 83-85 and touching 86. Showed the ability to pound the outside corner, and even stretched the corner a bit, taking advantage of a big strike zone. Did not try to attack inside much, but it wasn't necessary with him getting strikes 9 inches off the outside corner. Slider had good armspeed and two different breaks. Pitch had hard sharp 10/4 break when buried to gloveside for a strikeout, true swing and miss pitch. Ran a bit more 11/5 and a bit less sharp when he was trying to throw it for a called strike. Pitch ran 74-77. Did not show a change-up during the game. Completely dominated hitters, allowing just two hits and no walks in six innings with 13 strikeouts. Didn't toy with hitters either, cut their heads off when he had them on the ropes. Ellerts is one of the top uncommitted 2019 arms in Virginia.
