A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Sipe has a lanky 6-foot-1 frame with projection left to it. Short outing on the night for the left hander, as he came on in relief for Dean. Hips and shoulders closed moving down the mound. Lands closed and has some crossfire to the delivery. The arm swing is full and throws from a low three-quarter arm slot. The fastball stayed between 76-79 and touched 80 once. The breaking ball sat 69-71 and has some gradual 1/7 break on it. The breaking ball appears to be a tough look from both sides if he cant start it in the right place. The horizontal break on it can get some bad swings and bad contact, but it all depends upon zone placement. Sipe worked three at bats to full counts and lost all of them to walks. He did not allow a hit in his one inning of work and got a ground ball that could have been an inning ending double play if not for an infield error.
