Athletic frame with high end speed that shows all over the field. Rangy defender in the outfield with above average arm strength. When I saw him a few weeks ago he appeared to just have some simple timing issues, as expected early in the year, and looked much more comfortable today. Was facing very similar arms velocity wise as he did the first time I saw him. Had a single back through the middle in this one and just missed a double down the left field line in an at bat later on. Flashes occasional strength at the plate and has quick hands and bat speed through the zone. Interesting 2022 with some raw tools that continue to add polish.
Mid-Atlantic Summer Championships
Barnes has an athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Plus defender in the outfield with a ton of range and some arm strength to accompany it. Plus runner with solid instincts on the bases. Hit from the leadoff spot and flashed ability to hit for extra bases on the weekend. Square athletic stance with a small toe tap stride. Hands are quick and stay inside the ball well. Swing finishes with a slightly uphill path and has some gap to gap power. Barnes is a legitimate outfield prospect that has offensive capability to contribute about anywhere in the lineup.
Preseason All-State II
Barnes is 6-0 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load back to a slight bar, hips rotate completely with some violence, has some balance during his swing after hip rotation, posts on front leg. Longer path but very quick to contact point, keeps hands inside ball, whippy bat, level path, line drive swing and has power in the gaps, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 96. Very barrell aware. In the outfield, rounds ball and fields towards his target with soft hands. Plays through ball to a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, quick loose action, position velocity was 87. Ran a 3.83 home to first.
