A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average

Physical athlete at 6-foot-3, 200-pounds. Narrow, somewhat upright stance. Toe tap back before striding forward landing on line. Hands make a late load back before a level path through the zone. Hits against a firm front side and head stays behind the barrel at contact. In his first at bat he stayed inside and lined out to the right fielder. In his next at bat Elrod hooked a double down the third base line that would clear the bases for Hanover. He is a very physical two sport athlete and is having a solid start to his spring.

Elrod is an athletic third baseman with projection left and continues to add nice strength that is present throughout the frame. Clean actions defensively and above average arm strength across the infield. Square athletic stance at the plate, hands separate late, and slight uphill path to the swing. Elrod lands a little heavy on the front side and the weight was a little bit our front last night and Allen took advantage of that with a heavy dosage of breaking balls. Overall I really like the makeup of this 2023 and want to see a few more at bats.

Elrod is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open taller relaxed stance, big leg kick stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, uphill line drive swing, showed a pull approach with some extension through the ball, exit velocity was 78. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands, works through ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a sidearm slot, position velocity was 74. Ran a 7.43 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 77-82, touching 83, with hard late run to it. Curveball had good armspeed and was 64-66 with sharp 11/5 break and good shape to it. Change-up was 67-68 with good armspeed and some fade. Showed ability to throw fastball to both sides of plate and throw curve for strike or to draw a swing.
