Compact 5-foot-9 frame. Came on in relief of Harris in the sixth inning. Was a short outing, but Riney showed some of the same things that I saw in Lynchburg at the State Games in October. Simple delivery, repeats it well, and a long loose arm swing. Throws from a three-quarter arm slot. He used mostly fastballs in this outing. The fastball sat 83-85 mph and worked to both sides of the plate. The fastball found some bats, but did not find many barrels in this short relief outing. Riney is not afraid to compete and the fastball comes out fairly easy, offering some intrigue for his future.

VA/DC State Games
Riney is 5-9 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short free quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with a fall off forward finish and some recoil. Fastball was 79-83, touching 84, with late hard armside run that also has a bit of depth to it. Slider had good armspeed and was 69-73 with sharp 2/8 break to it. Pitches play well off of each other, especially at the bottom of the zone.
