2021 MLB Draft: Big and imposing at 6-foot-6, 240 pounds, Bush is built like a power forward or tight end with streamlined proportions and strength throughout. He can run his fastball up to 96, holding 93-94 late in games. There is slight drop and drive to his delivery and maintains body control, repeating a quick overhand arm angle with a loose backside stab and easy effort. He has feel for a starter's repertoire and can navigate a lineup three times over. He can live off his hard-running fastball with late movement and a sharp 1/7 slider at 82-85. The slider's action varies, with some having tilt and depth and others more bite and sweep. The changeup sits in the mid 80s and show big run and fade.
vs Loyola Marymount - One of top outings of 2021 and it came in front of 25+ scouts and scouting personnel. Big and imposing at 6-foot-6, 240-pounds, he's built like power forward or tight end with streamlined proportions and strength throughout. He touched 96 mph on a handful of occasions in the first inning and flashed 95 mph as late the fourth inning. The line was 7.1 innings, three hits (all singles), three walks, 13 strikeouts and an efficient 110 pitches. Slight drop drive delivery with in-line stride, maintains body control and repeated an quick overhand arm angle with loose stabbing backside arm action and easy effort. Upright finish with a bit of a rotational spin toward third base through finish. With three pitches, all of which he utilized well, and a fastball that was still touching 93-94 mph in the 7th/8th innings, he showed feel of a starter's repertoire and ability to navigate a line-up three times through. His ability to live off his hard running fastball with late movement and a sharp 1/7 slider (82-85 mph) was on display in the early innings as he punched out three in the first inning, all via the slider and then got three strikeouts looking in the second inning when he used the fastball exclusively to three right-handed hitters. The slider had varied action, with some having tilt and depth and others more bite and sweep, which makes sense as he utilized both a slider and curveball earlier in the season. Displayed ability to pound the fastball in and let the late life live on the arm side as well. Change-up (85 mph) was flashed in the third inning, with first two running with big fade off the plate. Stayed with that pitch and found feel in the middle innings, using to record three strikeouts, one in each of the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings (83-84 mph). As the adrenaline of the early innings wore off he gained feel and got more fade/sink than hard running action. The first hit was a bunt single, the second was into right field with that runner eventually thrown out on a steal attempt. The third hit came on a slider vs a left-handed hitter in the 7th inning, followed by a first pitch double play to end the inning on the very next offering. Held runners with long looks and mixing in both a slide step (1.26) and high knee lift. Previously drafted in the 40th round out of high school, he's got the stuff and statistical season (2.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 6-5 W-L, 72.1 IP, 101 SO, 18 BB, 62 H) that has him in the mix for late first round/early second round consideration in the 2021 draft.
