Canyon is a player that I’ve seen a lot, being close to my home in Southern Utah. Still working on the bat and production from that area of his game, but he does have a solid load into a 45 degree load and stays inside the baseball, just waiting for the bat to develop. He does catch and receive well and sticks pitches with little to no glove or head movement. A strong leader with an engaging personality that works well with pitchers and this is his strong suit. A 2.07-2.19 pop can be worked on with a good long toss program, as he has solid throwing mechanics and good transfers. The arm can be strengthened, and his feet play though. Looking for big improvements over the next calendar year!

Kutch showed an above average skill set at catcher for his age. He has an athletic body with room to grow allowing the 7.22- 60 to get better. He received the ball with soft hands and did extremely well handling the low pitch with his framing. He demonstrated very good mobility and body control, working side to side with loose hips and containing all blocked balls into a small radius. Consistent pop times of 2.05-2.08 were achieved by a compact throwing motion and quick feet while gaining ground toward second base. Offensively, Kutch has a good foundation and approach at the plate. Solid balanced set up, into small leg kick, with good barrel control, Canyon showed ability to drive balls in both gaps.

An advanced receiver with soft hands, sets up well and understands the catching part of the game. A below average arm with a best pop time of 2.05, Kutch sticks pitches and works under the ball and blocks and keeps balls in front. The ability to play around the diamond and also plays the corner OF spots and holds his own, but has the ability to to hit and showed a 10th best exit velo of 95.43. Have seen in live action quite a bit, so there is some feel with him. Grinds AB’s and is a tough out.
