Another position player that has jumped on the scene since we last saw him a year and a half ago and I’m happy he has come back over the last two events in February, showing a much more complete skill set. A standout at the Preseason ID series, Blackwell also showed well at the All-State event as well. At 5-10 177, Blackwell is strong for his size and has hand and lower body strength due to his work in the gym with Push Performance “Remote” that he has really shown dedication with! A top 20 state prospect that could see that jump even higher with a big junior year, Blackwell has a level, compact fast bat with strong hands as mentioned. He can get into his lower ½ better and use his core more efficiently with some tweaks to see the rotational aspect of his swing come about more. The 98.4 EV, coupled with his longest shot of the day at 371’ will take off even more with the improvements and tweaks from the data points in Blast Motion. Defensively he is semi flashy and has easy movement patterns with soft hands and educated feet. The arm plays with forearm and wrist strength to flip the baseball at 83 mph and has even more in there with maturity. A 7.02/60 could also see that shaved off a bit with added core/hip strength and speed training. Not a toolsy player, but has as mentioned, sound movement patterns to suggest with his skill set all being of potential quality to be a surprise type find for a mid-major D1 or high quality JUCO type program. With two years left, colleges need to bear down and create a following for this kid, this spring and make sure to see him this summ
