Cape Cod: After missing the spring while recovering from Tommy John surgery, Witt returned to action in Chatham and struggled, posting an 11.93 ERA in14.1 innings of work, with 17 strikeouts and seven walks. His velocity has not yet returned to form, as he did not sniff the mid-90s heat we saw in the past, instead working at 88-91 in our three-plus inning look. With an old-fashioned over-the-head windup and a deliberate delivery that includes two pauses, Witt seems to get out of sync from the full windup but looks much more fluid when working from the stretch with a simplified operation. His fastball has good spin rates into the 2400s and solid induced vertical break in the 18-20 inch range, but his command was just fair in this look. He stood out more for his secondary stuff, showing feel for an excellent 81-82 mph changeup with good arm speed, deception and sink (his best pitch) as well as a tight 11-to-5 curveball with depth in the 75-78 range, spinning in the 2600-2800s. Witt has the arsenal and pedigree to be a first-rounder next summer if his velocity returns to normal and he performs for the Longhorns.

The 6-foot-5 right-hander is still rehabbing from TJ surgery that he underwent last spring. In less than one month he will be one year post-op and his situation could turn into a Connor Prielipp 2.0 from last spring when the Alabama lefty (and 48th overall pick in the 2022 draft) was fully healthy, but did not pitch in games during the college season. Prielipp only threw bullpens for MLB scouts starting the day before the SEC tournament and ending a couple weeks before the draft.

Witt missed most of the 2022 season because of Tommy John surgery, but as we saw from the recent MLB draft, that sometimes doesn’t hurt your stock much. Witt will get up to 96 mph with his fastball when he’s healthy and a nasty 77-80 mph breaking ball with good metrics.

Cape Cod- A first-team Freshman All-American after anchoring the bullpen for Texas' College World Series club, Witt made three piggyback appearances in the Cape League, posting a 3.00 ERA and a 17-5 K-BB mark in 12 IP. He showed more velocity in shorter stints this spring, but his fastball was plenty firm in the three-inning start we saw, sitting at 91-93 with high spin rates in the 2300-2561 range, lending the pitch good carry through the zone. He impressed with his ability to locate to both sides of the plate with his fastball, as well as his advanced feel for his breaking ball and changeup, which he'll throw in any count. We saw a sharp 11-to-5 curveball with big depth at 76-79 mph and spin rates in the 2800-2900 rpm range, repeatedly flashing plus, and Holliday said he also threw a slider in Chatham. His changeup was a bit inconsistent in our viewing but flashed above-average with good fade and sink at 79-81. He also is comfortable throwing it right-on-right as well as against lefties. With a big, projectable 6-foot-6, 215-pound frame and a clean high three-quarters arm action, Witt is the total package — a high-upside, top-of-the-draft talent who is mature beyond his years. Look for him to take over for Ty Madden atop the Texas rotation and become one of the best Friday night aces in the country next year.

Struck out five during his 1.2 IP, 43-pitch relief appearance against Arkansas, topping out at 94 mph with his fastball while mainly working 90-93. He also drew some fooled reactions from the hitters with his firm spinning, 78 mph top-to-bottom curveball.

Estimated 6-foot-5, 200-pound athletic frame, and high waist. The right-hander throws a high ¾ slot with a long arm swing and repeatable, smooth delivery. His fastball was 87-88 mph, touching 89 mph in the 1st and settled in at 85-86 mph in the 2nd and 3rd. Had a couple walks early but was able to command fastball at the bottom of the zone as the outing went on. Flashed a two-seamer at 84-85 mph with good arm side run into righties. Also flashed a big, slow 11-5 curveball at 67-71 mph, primarily throwing it backdoor to righties. At the plate, the right-hander has a smooth, quick swing. He showcases a simple, controlled approach at the plate hitting the pitch where it’s thrown and hits the ball hard.

Uncommitted, he is balanced and controlled throughout while slightly scooping through the zone on an uphill plane. He demonstrates the ability to use the whole field, but his pull side power is what currently stands out most.

6-foot-4, 185-pound, athletic, long-limbed frame. Witt works from a high-¾ slot with a clean, medium arm stroke. His fastball was 88-90 mph in the bullpen. His curveball was 73-75 mph with good depth and decent shape for a rising sophomore. His changeup was 78-79 mph. 

Approximate 6-foot-4, 185-pound, high-waisted frame. Witt stands out right away during I/O, not just because of his advanced frame, but also because he shows advanced actions with quick, easy exchanges and the ability to throw on the run. The right-handed hitter was 1-for-3 with four RBI with his only knock being a grand slam home run to left-centerfield. In Witt's other three at-bats, he ran a 4.46-second time to first base on a ground ball to third, walked and struck out. This is a young player that is sure to garner the attention of college recruiters.
