There was a lot of buzz going into Paz’s Thursday night start. And with a lot of people there to watch him, the freshman exceeded everyone’s expectations. The first thing that stands out about the talented righty is his demeanor. From the time he started warming up, to the time his night was done he was in total control of what he was trying to accomplish. Worked at a good pace but never in a hurry. He has a low effort delivery that looks like he is just playing catch, but he was 84-88 T89 with sink and ASR. He kept his fastball down and made it tough to elevate. He also threw an upper 70’s breaking ball, it is his 3rd best pitch at the moment but shows the right shape and spin. The game changer was his changeup. It has the same shape as his fastball but just stops halfway through. Has good sinking action and really kills the spin on the pitch (1600 rpm). If you didn’t know any better you would think Paz is a senior with how he carried himself. It will be fun to follow him for the next 4 years.
